I found this at a local thrift shop. Was around $5 or so I can't remember but I was purchasing a dutch oven anyways, and am constantly seeing things on this site about Pewter.

But is this pewter? How can I tell? Bottom (as pictured) says pewter candlestick... But it's a sticker. Does it need to be marked ON the metal itself?

If it is, what to do now? Throw it in a pot and melt it into a normal ingot which I can later add to some WW?

Thanks guys.

Inside the base had a sort of glue holding the felt with tag on. I removed that but the residue is still there in picture.

Inside the base appears to be brass. When I Googled "hosley pewter candle holder" someone remarks that pewter refers to the color of the paint on the metal. If you tap the base and it rings, it ain't pewter.

Is that the general rule? If it rings it aint pewter? Sucks... Thought I found myself a gem!

The "Made in India" line is also a tip off that it is probably brass. Brass ain't cheap either, so maybe you not out much. Dale

No, that is not pewter. Real pewter is not assembled with screws or rivets, it is soldered together. Examine the pictures here for a better feel next time:

I have found that anything that has a printed label saying pewter is not pewter especially when its from India...
Stick to hallmarked pieces like in the thread posted by imashooter2 and you will be good.
