Major Brass Score!

A private security contractor has been using our indoor range for training and the outdoor range for qualification. They're shooting copious quantities of Federal and Fiocci .40 S & W ammunition. I went up early this morning so I could look the indoor range over before they arrived and found several cardboard (10 box cases) overflowing with floor sweepings. I asked about it and was told if I wanted it it was there for the taking.

Turns out there was 53 lbs of brass Fiocci cases and 12 lbs of nickel Federal cases. Roughly 100 pcs/lb so I have a nice haul there. This was all fired in the same group of guns, all Glocks, but the Federal shows much more noticeable bulging.

That was from four days activity. They shot today and will be shooting all next week as well. At the current rate, which may taper off as more of their people qualify, the potential is there for 14,000 pcs of once fired brass.

I don't even own a .40.

I'm debating selling it as is or de-glocking it first.

You might want to consider selling it to Glock Junkie on the cheap cheap lol ! 40 is all I shoot. If I was to happen across a find like that I would pour em out in the floor and roll around in em like money lol !

Man I just scrapped 2-5 gallon buckets of 40 brass about a month ago. I don't shoot 40 and they sat around for about 2 years and I got tired of moving the buckets.

Too bad you aren't near me.. I can de-bulge that 14,000 pcs in about 4 hours, machine does 3500 pcs per hour.

Must be nice. Range pickup brass where I shoot is basically nil. If I come out with the brass I shot and 3 pieces I picked up off the range I am lucky. Has to be guys with no life stopping off at least daily picking up brass and going through the trash cans.

Even at scrap prices of $1.70-2.20 per lb of #2 yellow brass you will soon have enough to finance a Glock or perhaps a pistol of some other caliber you already shoot.
Selling them here is another option, but sell them as-is, you won't add much in value in spite of your labor.

Great score! That much brass is worth picking up, regardless of the caliber! If you don't use it, there is probably a market for it here on the forum.

I had to start reloading .40 when my SIL & daughter bought one. I have loaded about 1K rounds in the last 3 months and I don't even own a .40.

I would just offer the 40 S&W Brass in trade for a caliber that you do shoot & reload

Great score. Brass is often worth more as scrap than as a reloading component. I reloaded .40 Short & Weak for awhile, still have a few hundred cases and a few hundred more loaded. Last time I checked I didn't have a .40S&W, incredibly boring round to load & shoot. It is undoubtedly one of the best modern self-defense rounds available but I'd trade my stash and dies for a couple of 5 gal buckets of WW's.

Gosh, I dont mean to be a beggar, but I sure could use a couple thousand 40 brass. Dont care what make, finish, condition, etc.....
If anyone has some to sell, I am willing to buy.

I reload for 40 S&W -- and love it! Have two pistols -- a CZ-75B which shoots like a dream, and a Ruger SR40, which I just bought. It shoots great, too; shoots right where you naturally point, just like the CZ! Easy to load, fun to shoot. I can bounce cans down the range all day long with those guys!

i load 40 , with the lee 401-170tc , they work very well as cast about 402-403

6.3 gr power pistol and 4.5 gr power pistol for the wife's load her load is very easy on the hand

I load 40. Hell, I even designed two 40cal boolits for Miha group buys.
