Hey All. Now normally this isn't something I'd get real excited over but you'll have to see it to appreciate it. My brother in laws dad (his name is Art also...) is a great guy and a good friend and has helped me a lot over the years, as a result he has a standing invitation to come shoot at my range whenever it suits him.

Last fall we had to have a tree service take down a 150 year old white pine at my moms house because it was between the house and the powerlines, the first 16 feet of trunk was nice and straight so I got the boys to cut it into 9' lengths and bring them to my house where I proceeded to get out the chainsaw mill and mill me some boards. First cut I screwed up, meant to make a nice 2" thick slice but ended up making one side 2" wide and the other side 3" wide. Oh well, into the burn pile................except.............Art looked at it and asked what I was going to do with it. He's a lifelong woodworker and I knew he was after it for something so I asked if he wanted it and loaded it into his truck for him. Never gave it another thought.

About an hour ago, Art shows up at my door, I thought he wanted to go shooting but he said he was just here to deliver a bench for the shooting range.............what????? He had taken my screw up, gotten some cedar out of our swamp and made this AND delivered it. We just sat it out by the range which is getting a shed roof type cover built for it tomorrow.

I can't even BELIEVE how nice this thing is!!!! There ARE still good people out there, let me know what you think of what my buddy built for us!

That is nice! I love the rifle rest in the back. May have to do something like that when I put my range together this summer.

Well, that is a thing of beauty! You said he had a standing invitation, but that gesture DEFINITELY qualifies for lifetime unlimited range priviledges! Congratulations !

Better give him some of the good wood next time. You might get a house out of it.

It shows what he thinks of your friendship. I meet a lot of people, but I always say, I would rather have a few really good friends, than be friends with everybody.

What Crabo said.

Oh and dbosman? I already have a house that wife and I built. I don't know how much better wood can get than 150 year old white pine...................<grin>

What a great idea and an even better gester from a good friend. It is nice to see someone who is one to give back instead of taking all the time. Our society needs more like him.

Nice design, well executed. Nicely done. Seems some "accidents" really aren't.

Thanks guys!

We spent all day yesterday building our shooting bench cover, started at 8am with two old guys and two young guys who know how to build. Us old guys did the cutting and hauling and the young guys ran the nail guns and set the joists.

Eventually it will be boxed in but for now just to keep the sun off of us it will work just dandy. Here's some more pictures of the bench with my favorite adopted grandchild sitting in it and of what we ended up with at the end of the day.

Please don't send pics of the baby sitting on a dangerous semi-automatic shooting bench!!!

Very nice. Looks like you have a future shooter there. You can't wait until they are old enough, but at the same time you don't want them to ever get older.

Happy shooting.
