Have been loading .38 special, 9mm, and .45 ACP for years using Bullseye exclusively. Recently acquired a new Model Blackhawk in .357 with a 6 1/2 inch barrel and was told Bullseye might not perform as I would like. I'll ber using a Lyman 358156 gas check mould and would like a full power load and suggestions as to powder. I have about a half dozen reloading manuals and have not found anything new and interesting.

For "all out" using the 358156, use H-110/WW296, Lil'Gun, or AA#9. My favorite for a slightly reduced power is BlueDot.

Thirteen grains of Alliant 2400 with the 358156 has always shot in my revolvers. Not quite maximum.

I like 13gr. 2400 with the 358-429. Does well in the NMBH and the 10in. Oct. 'Tender barrel.

Thanks for the replies now I'll have to look around and see what powders are available. Powder and Primers are real scarce around here lately.

I like Aliant 2400 13.5 gr. under Lyman 358156 in both my 6" Security Six and Marlin 1894C. This load chrony's @ 1275 in the pistol and 1640 in the rifle, both with fine accuracy. For plinking I think it hard to beat Red Dot (or PROMO) 5.0 gr. under any 140 ~ 160 gr. boolit.

my .357 Blackhawk likes H110. I use that powder for all heavy magnum loads including .41 and 44 Mag. IMO it is a hard to beat powder for this application.

15.7 grains of H-110 under a 358-156 is my personal favorite 357 load. That is a Max Load in Lyman's Cast Boolit Handbook, but it is the most accurate, powerful, load that I have found. The 2400 loads were not as accurate in my experience when top accuracy and power were concerned.

A bit over 16 gr of H110.

I have used the Lee 158rf with ( I think as I'm not near my loading record) 4.0 gr WW 231. Shot very well.

Are you wanting target or full or almost fullbore loads? Makes a big difference. Or both?

I'll line up with the guys using Accurate number nine and Hercules 2400 , I've used and liked both . I don't see bad choices with the other powders mentioned , with todays market you might just have to use what you find .

I shoot 2400 and AA9 as my powders of choice for hot loads in .357. They worked well when I started loading and I have never seen a need to change. Others may be just as good, but I haven't tried them. As noted above, you may have to shoot what's available!

As posted by many others, 13.0 of 2400 is my favorite too.

296 (H110) in full-house loads. I use several different powders for mid-range and target loads. Red Dot, Green Dot, Bullseye, 2400, Unique, #9 (heavier loads) and HS-6, but MY favorite powder is probably 4227 or 2400 a very close second.... Like you say, shortage of powder/components might dictate your choice(s). Lots of other good powders out there I am yet to use. Just my list, that's all.

#358429 with a max charge of Blue Dot. For target, 6.0 of WW231 with the #358156.

110 for full tilt loads. Don't shoot those too often though. I like to shoot a bunch.

WV Manchu -

Howdy !

14.5gr WW296 ( H110 same stuff ) and SP Mag primer under any Lyman .357" cal SWC of 158 - 172gr. Do not need to be gas-checked.
