My wife, girls and I spent the weekend camping a couple of weeks ago. Caught a few fish and fired a few boolits out of the 300 whisper. Had a great time. The girls are pretty good shots with their BB gun, too. They understand basic safety and muzzle control (just have to be reminded occasionally as they are 4 and 6). And they usually hit what they aim at. They are 100% supervised when we are out shooting. They also like to help me reload, too.

Anyway, I'm quite proud of them. The wife is better than average pistol shot as well.

Thank you, everyone. It is nice to take some time and enjoy life with the family. I, like a lot of other folks, tend to get too wrapped up in work and other stuff and neglect to spend quality time with those most important to us. I appreciate your comments and encouragement. The community here is great, and I appreciate being able to be a part of it.

You can tell they are having fun. Hug them close every chance you get, because they grow up fast.

I'll have to show this to my wife. My 8 year old daughter wants to shoot the 22LR rifle since the older boys are doing it now. Wife thinks she's too little. I would have to agree her 9 year old brother is too immature.. but not her... the older boys are 11 & 12...

But I'd like to take her once and see how she does....

No. Not yet but they're right there with me when I clean fish or a deer.

Great pics! I'm sure you had a swell time. Any time spent with family is "prime" time!

Both of my girls learned to shoot early and enjoy it to this day. Both are good shots and will help clean guns after a day of shooting. My wife is also a very good pistol shot and has her own guns. I pity the poor mugger or burglar who tries to overpower her!

I was surprised at the number of young female hunters (teens to mid 20s) taking the NC Hunter Safety Course! Thumbs up on teaching them girls!

You are a good dad. I used to take my three girls shooting when they were small. My two oldest are now 27 and 31, but when they came for a visit a few weeks ago, one of our activities was to go to the shooting range, just like we used to. Some things you never forget. BTW, my dad was from the Glenpool area, just below Tulsa.

I cancelled an endless gluttonry shipride (cruise) and spend the money on NRA life memberships for two sons in law and 4 grandchildren. There was enough money left over for a new rifle and scope.

Win-win all around. I would have gained 10 pounds from eating out of boredom on board ship and saved a ton of money that my wife would have spend on 'duty free' junk in the Bahamas.

I compare buying memberships for the grandchildren to planting acorns instead of buying oak saplings at the nursery.

BK, on next year's outing, teach those girls how to clean and cook the fish they catch. That will give them wisdom beyond their years(in today's culture)

68402Great job Dad! My girls are 38 & 34 now but they shot and hunted with us always. My wife shoots and the girls were on 4H trap and skeet teams and were winners. Now I work with my grandchildren and the girls are regular participants in family range days. The 15 year old is the best handgun shot in the family and outshoots all the guys including her LEO father. Keep up the fun and the good instruction in "real" life skills.

Our club is sponsoring "Bring your daughter to the range day", this is a national program sponsored by the NRA. We did it last year and it was quite a hit ( pun intended ) and we're doing it again this year. Last year we had 60 girls and their family or friends come out. This year we're planing to have 100 girls ( this takes some planing ). I would encourage any one in a club to get involved with this program!

But I'd like to take her once and see how she does....

Within the past year I've taken my son (6) and my daughter (9) to the range to shoot 22LR. Well, about two weeks ago the girls (wife and daughter) were at a Girl Scout Camp, so the boy and I went to the range (his choice). This time he wanted to try the 410. The gun we have for them is a single shot Youth Rossi 22LR/410. Not knowing how he would handle the change from going from only shooting a 22LR, I shot the 410 with him watching to show him how much it kicked. That didn't deter him one bit so I stuck the stock under his arm, held the fore grip with my left hand (just in case) and braced the back of the stock with my right hand, and then BOOM!!! Wouldn't you know it; he loved it and wanted to shoot that instead of the 22LR because of the number of holes in the target. He shot it a total of 10 times before that round on the range was over and when we switched the target we went back to the 22LR and practicing our skills.

Now for my daughter, I will give her the same option to shoot it next time we are at the range but between you and me I don’t think she is as daring as my son and it will take her more time before she will enjoy anything other than her 22LR.

I dare anyone to tell me of a better day than one with the family at the range.

My 11 year old insisted on starting off with the 12ga. Handles it fine, but isn't terribly accurate yet. The 12 yr old likes the 22LR and is like a sniper with it in accuracy (it's scoped). Neither like pistols, like their dad prefers.

But... yeah.. having my wife allow me to get my (deceased since 1995) dad's firearms and get back into the hobby took me 15 years... baby steps...

I hear that. You notice that my wife was out of town when I allowed the 6 year old to shoot the 410, right? lol. The smile on his face in the picture, with his target, was all I needed to keep me off the couch when she got back.

Nice to see families are still doing things as families. Not on the smart phones, not playing video games (im still playing Duck Hunt for Nintendo, hahah just kidding) but families in the outdoors, camping, shooting, fishing. Im glad for all you families that have good holsum family time, putting holes in paper with high powered rifles, or throwing plastic line with metal hook and plastic worm for a fish to swallow!!! All American Families right there.
