Solder is a good cheap source of tin. There is 50/50,60/40,63/37, and the lead free solder is 95 to 97% tin.

:goodpost:17 dollars and some change at Rotometals is about the best you're gonna do for straight tin. When you buy solder, you're buying other metals and also paying for manufacturing costs.

By the way, you can get tin in one pound ingots or small chunks in the form of cut tin wire. I prefer the small chunks. You can add a little at a time like that without the hassle of blending large amounts.

If you find some kind of special deal for solder that is good. But otherwise, I use roto metals.

I pick up Pewter at thrift stores for next to nothing so I just use that... Mostly Tin with a little bit of antimony added to the alloy works for me.

My local Goodwill occasionally has pewter, but they seem to think it's made of gold.

Same for all the thrift stores around here, I picked this mug up at the local flea market for $1

That sure looks like modern lead free pewter to me. About 10 ounces after the glass and caulk are broken out.

I buy solder. I recently bought some silver solder on here that was ~$7/lb and have 30-35lbs of 95/5 I bought for $8-10/lb. Just keep looking around.

Your local scrap metal dealer should have pewter - they get all the damaged stuff from the thrift shops as well. Over here it costs Kiwi $8.50 per kilo which would equate to something like $2.90 US per pound. I think I have a lifetime supply!

303Guy, Thats a very good price for pewter, Although I try to get it cheaper, I pass on a lot but when I find something with a lot of weight and they want 99 cents or 1.99 then I get it! I am down to around 30lbs of pewter 1lb ingots now so I have cut my stash in half in just over a year.... Im always on the look out for it
