I need to slug a .44spec. 3" bbl. and don't want to cast a soft slug and then go thru the hassle of ramming it down the bbl. (or using the egg sinker route). I have done it on other guns and for me, its a hassle. how about me loading one of my 245 gr swc and using maybe one grain of unique under some tissue paper as a wad and shooting it into a 5 gal bucket of water from atop a ladder. or into a soft medium. if it sticks in the bbl. well, I will be back to square one but whats the down side of doing it the easy way? thanks

Slug the cylinder throats, instead, and size for the fattest one.

One downside is that the harder the boolit is the more spring back you will have and the less accurate your measurement will be. The second is that you will not have any measure of areas of tightness and/or looseness in the barrel.

I used some Hornady .457" lead balls made for BP guns, they deformed just fine.

Speer .454 lead muzzle loader balls worked well in my .44mag super Blackhawk!
