Thanks

A good reloading manual. Not to be snippy, but don't get your reloading info off the net, unless it's from a manufacturer's website. Even then I'd check a few. I don't know how long you've been reloading, but an investment in a couple of good manuals is a good investment. I've been reloading since around 1964, and I learn something new almost every day. And that's in spite of the fact that I used to know EVERYTHING !!!

I agree with Sensai. I am trying to develop a cast load for 358-125-rf with Red Dot. I checked with 8 sources and the max load for a 125 lead bullet ranged from, 3.6-5.0 grains. There are so many variables. What gun are you shooting out of, its bore and groove dimensions, lead alloy, heat treating, seating depth, primers, cases ......I am finding that a chronograph is almost a must if you want to hone in on a good load.

see this thread

As the charge increased velocity tracked pretty well, but the StDev of the velocity dipped then increased with the larger loads. Looking at the target you could see the shot pattern widening with the increase in StDev. Even though there were no pressure signs there was no reason to explore higher velocities. I am now running tests to see what the correct seating depth is.

Thanks for the reply's, I guess I didn't make my post as clear as I should have. I have all kinds of reloading manuals and yes they very quite a bit when looking at Red Dot loads, I have a KKM barrel for a Glock and was wanting to work a load. Just trying to get some info on how much Red Dot it takes to work the slide , OAL on this 124gr cast bullet comes out to 1.145 in the KKM barrel, I'm thinking starting out at 3.8 grns ?

I use Lyman data for Red Dot (PROMO by weight not volume) in 9MM. There is a lot of data in their manuals from years past. I load for a CZ 75B, Browning HP, Glock 17 and 22 w/conversion barrel. I use Lyman 358242, 356402 and the Lee 356-125-2R. I took the advice from a post here some time ago to compare loads with Red Dot 3.6 gr, 3.8 gr and 4.0 gr. All gave perfect function but 3.8 gr. shot the best for me.

4.0 of Red dot works in every 9x19 I've tried with a 125 grain cast seated just short enough to feed/chamber. Never a HOT load but always a functional one.

I stole a load of 4 grains of Red Dot from Pet Loads and I have been using it with a 125 grain Lee round nose mold for a few decades now. I have seldom used anything else in the 9mm for the last couple of decades now.

Have fun with this stuff.

Another happy user of the 4 grain Red Dot load here,my 17 and 26 Glocks love it too.

I use Lyman 358242 and RCBS 115 grain truncated conical nose; both with 3.8 grains of Red Dot. Burns clean, no leading and accurate out to 50 yards. No prob with feeding or functioning in 3 different 9mm's. Things start to get blasty over 4.0 so I settled with 3.8-3.9 which work the best for me. LLS

Mine does not seem to like 4.0 of Red Dot behind a 125gr cast - I get keyholes like crazy - but 3.5 seems to work ok, and I'm looking at making up some 3.8-ish loads (as soon as I get more boolits!) to see if they work better.

Just tested the 124gr cast bullet with 3.8grns of Red Dot, load averaged 1023 FPS, cycled fine in the Glock
