I was, so I went looking for 222 Rem Mag. Midway, Grafs and Midsouth have them. Midway and Grafs have them hidden with the 222 Remingtons.
All seem to be Remington brand. Midway 46.99 per 100
Midsouth 45.21 per 100
Grafs 52.99 per 100

A single pass through your 223 Rem FL, and trim to length and...wha-laaa, 223 Rem.

Be careful not to mis-order, 222 Remington's are too short to make 223's.

Mods, why don't we have a cartridge conversion forum?

I agree! We need a place for cartridge conversions.

What is have asking? I have noticed a softening in the price of used 223 brass recently but the demand for j-words for this caliber still exceeds supply. Seems that many have given up trying to get components for this caliber.

I'd like to think I was smart enough to come up with this on my own, but no. It's in my Handloaders manual of cartridge conversions. A very helpful book.

Not up to date on some conversions though. Most notably to me is the one for 7.5mm Swiss.

Um, sacrificing relatively rare .222 Magnum brass to make a commonly available case seems like sacrilege to me. Criminy, there's .223/5.56 brass all over the place. Maybe not at the price we paid last year, but it's even being offered here in Swappin and Sellin.

I think .284Win is the easiest one.

I do the same for my H&R's but I do it so that I can actually fill the chambers neck with brass instead of air. The sizing/trimming effort took about 5/16 inch off my group size @ 100yds....was it worth it????

.....when a crow is sitting in a field 1/4 mile away.... just waiting for his 50 grain T-N-T "present" to show up....... it definately is worth it.

If you like mixed brass of unknown origin, possibly reloaded more than once, buy that bulk stuff. I like uniformity, consistancy. I don't bang away hundreds at a time. There is NO new 223 rem around here, so which is really rarer? And the fact that all the order houses have 222 rem mag said to me, there are plenty to go around.
If you are having trouble finding them it's probably the 204 Ruger crowd, they convert them too.

Yep, that's exactly what I was refering to. I'm making those from 284's. The book has a listing for a Swiss 7.5 Schmidt Rubin. Nothing specific to the K31 though. That conversion is made from a 7.62x54r, and requires the rim turned off and new extraction groove cut. Lots of work, and gives you a short case. Sort of like the 8x56r Styer from 7.62x54r does. Not worth it in my opinion. Perhaps that was they way it was done before the 284 was introduced in 1963.

Exactly, I plan on using these in my T/C rifle with a 24" MGM bull barrel, so good stuff is needed from the start. They will eventually make it down to my AR when they are on their last legs.
