With the upcoming ban on gun powder, and already limited supply, lets hear about all the loads that aren't listed in loading manuals.
List them to cartridge, boolit (or J-Word), and if it worked or not.
I remember reading about someone who tried BP in 45acp, and it worked.

I.E. 50 BMG in .223 or 38 special. 4198 in 22 hornet. 2400 in 9mm.

With the upcoming ban on gun powder..... lets hear about all the loads that aren't listed in loading manuals.....

Forgive me, I'm gettin' old and slow. I'm not callin' ya' out, I just don't understand the correlation between the two. If private purchase of powder is banned or taxed beyond affordability, we won't be able to get anything. So how would unpublished data from individual research and testing be of any use?

Because we all have powders sitting around that we bought for one purpose and used some of it and decided to go a different direction.
So, if they can be used someplace not normally used, then we can stretch out our supplies.

Now I understand. Thank you!

I hope you're not upset with me, as I said, I wasn't calling you out. Can I blame it on a 'senior moment'? :veryconfu

Unfortunately this isn't the first time gun powder has been used to make bombs. Black powder has been used in pipe bombs for a long time; remember Columbine? There will be negative press, but I seriously doubt gun powder will be banned.

The question - is the reason so many recommend every reloader have several manuals. Besides the fact that they can be a treasure of history.
Load manuals are free from the powder manufacturers. Many are online as well.
If you order online, there is almost always a link to get manufactures manuals. Some charge a penny due to their inventory system not being able to deal with $0.00 items. Order one of each. The extra shipping for a couple of pounds of manuals is well worth the cost.

1++ what dbosman posted on having several manuals. Last year I found out Vihtavouri 110 groups better shooting cast in .22 Hornet than amy old standby H4227..lots cleaner too! However, I didn't just grab this powder out of thin air..Vihtavouri lists it for jacketed loads in Hornet. Reduced loadings work fine.

Buy a copy of the Quickload software. Only drawback I've found is that anything newer than 5 years isn't in the database.

Where did the upcoming ban on gunpowder come from?? Senator Frank Lautenberg (Idiot, NJ) has proposed it again. I think he does it every year. This time it got traction in the "MSM".

There is a 2nd problem with reloading software.
The first is it's out of date. That's fine up to a point.
The 2nd problem is I've not seen any (and I've not looked at all of it/them) that allow for online updates.
Occasionally a powder manufacturer changes the characteristics of a powder slightly. In a rifle cartridge that probably won't matter. In a pistol load or shotgun shell, that can be a slightly big deal.

times are changin .
Midway U S A has six powders in stock ..
if we have to put up some type of defense we are going to have to think outside the box .

Black powder in a 1911 45acp does not work. Can't remember the issue of American Handgunner, but John Taffin tried it. I did find a bottle of red dot and another of green dot. Data for both are sparse.

8.0 gr of Alliant 2400 works good in 40S&W 180 gr RCBS BOOLIT. @600 fps. Positive ejection. Locks slide back on my compact Taurus 24/7.

That and the initial price, and the cost of updates......which should be free, especially considering it's intended use. Quickload is a fun software to play with but it's just a guess, and sometimes not a very good one.
