I haven't slugged mine yet, but I wonder what others are using. And, if you know the bore and groove diameter of yours, please comment on that also.

dunno, it shot the 358 boolits I had on hand already just fine.
so I didn't change.

I shoot the RCBS 158 cm and NOE 170 Kieth both sized to 358.
My barrel slugged .3565
Both very accurate

I shoot a couple of commercially cast boolits that consistently measure .358. One is a 130gn LRNFP and the other is a 158gn LSWC. With the limits of the plain iron sights on the rifle both of these have surprised me with how good thay make me look. But I haven't done any back to back direct comparison.

So .358 is getting it done. I've seen it posted that Rossi is making these guns with a full .005 rifling height, with approx .345 bore and .355 groove diameter.

I wonder what Fecmech's guns mic at?

My Rossi is a newer one, whatever that's worth.

Last two I got in were 357 on the snout.

Both my Rossi's are slightly less than .357, .3565-.3567 IIRC. I have a Winchester 94 .357 that has an extremely long "toilet bowl" throat (.400"long!) that I size .359 for and the Rossi's don't seem to have a problem with that. I also size .358, it just depends on what lube and sizer I'm using at the time as to what gets loaded. I haven't noticed any accuracy differences in the Rossi's with either size. The Winchester throat leads badly with .358 and is better with .359.

That's cool. A little flexibility doesn't hurt. I will have to see what mine likes. I have a 686 that I'm hoping to be able to double up on ammo with. The 686 has tight throats, barely .358 (maybe .357) if I recall.

My two boolit choices that I have molds for are the 358477 and the GB 180 FN. I'm thinking the heavy one loaded to the gills and the 477 with Red dot or Unique for light/quiet stuff.

the 477 will take some steam behind it just fine.

I have this mold for my Rossi ... So how much steam will this handle if cast from water quenched wheel weights ?

15.0 grains 2400 shoots very well out of mine under the very similar RCBS 38-150 K. That is a top end load in Lyman's 4th Edition Cast Bullet handbook, but in the RCBS cast bullet no.1 They go Higher. 15.7 grains of H-110 also works, though I tend to get some leading. These are top end loads that run in the neighborhood of 1600-1700 FPS from my 20 inch barrel.

So I slugged mine today. There's definitely a good constriction under the rear sight, and the groove seems to be in the neighborhood of .3565, give or take .0005.

I loaded up a dummy round with that 180 FN unsized at .359-.360. It wouldn't chamber without excessive force, so it seems these guns have pretty tight chambers. .358 will probably be the way to go.

i haven't tried for top end loads with it but it will easily take a max load of unique and 12 grs of 2400 is no problem.

Anybody using the Lee 358-158-RF ? I just bought one to try and thought about pushing it with some Trailboss for a plinker. I just got a new Rossi 92 and shot a few jacketed 357 and a few 38 special SWC without any noticeable accuracy changes.

I Shoot the 158 RF more than any other. My rifle likes 10.3 grains of blue dot or 13.5 grains of 2400 best under that one.

Due to the slow twist, you have to push the heavy boolits faster to get good accuracy. My bore slugs to .355ish.

I've got 3 lbs of Blue Dot, I'll give it a "shot" this afternoon or tomorrow, depending on the weather.

I shoot that one with Trailboss. I don't recall how much, but it's very accurate in my Rossi 92 and also in an Uberti Model P. I size them to .358. They're also great fun with black powder.

Remember that 10.3 is a MAX load, so work up so you don't blow yourself up.

I started getting a clean burn at around 10 grains.

I assume you are talking about BlueDot and not Trailboss, right?

Yes. I don't think you could get 10 grains of Trailboss into a 357 case.
