What Lubrisizer Die is recommended for use with 45-70 ?

Thanks in advance

Hi Joe,

That depends on your gun. I use a 0.459" die, but I also have a 0.460" die for Trapdoor Springfields. Some guns will do well with bullets sized 0.457" too. I have a 0.457" die but have never used it. If you're going to buy a die and don't want to slug your gun, 0.459" will probably be good.

Take care, Tom

The rifle is a Marlin 1895. Thanks for the suggestion

joeatact,

I am currently using on the recomendation of my mold maker, a .460 push through - Lee style - die to soon after casting to size and seat the gas checks on my 465gr bullets, cast of 50/50 WW/lead.

These bullets are quenched as they fall from the mold.

Then sometime later, I run the sized bullets through my sizer/luber using a .461 sizer/luber die.

It was recommended that I allow the bullets to cure for a minimum of 7 days before shooting, and this has worked out quite well.

Sluging you gun is a good idea, but without it I'd go with .459 as a minimum and likely with the .460. Slug it and know for sure.

460 for the marlin.
maybe more if it has the stupidly huge throat thing in front of the chamber.
I went to 379 in my 375 win.

.459 works well in my Marlin Cowboy. .457 leads and does not shoot as well.
