I have some solder with 3% silver in it. I was just wondering how much percentage of silver would be needed to harden a boolit, especailly when I water quench the things. Copper is doing pretty good @ around .25%, but unsure about the silver. Maybe make a boolit like "laser cast" boolits, but don't know how much silver they have in their alloy. Actually plan on making an alloy with silver and copper in it. Silver percentages, using the alloy calculator, would be in the .04%area.

Thanks

I have been wondering the same thing. I found some antimony on ebay with 2% silver. I would like to get some but unsure about the silver content. Granted, 2% silver in the antimony wont add up to much when you add 5% antimony or less.

Staybrite 3% silver bearing solder is going for $4.00 PER OUNCE on e-bay right now. If your solder is still in the wire form contact refrigeration / air conditioning shops in your area. You might be able to buy a lot of wheel weights or linotype with the $ you'd get selling it as is.

I think the Laser cast silver content in nothing but incidental. It probably is all marketing hype. You will notice that most all of the bullets cast on this site are cast without silver.
