Anybody ever noticed that you could hacksaw off a Lyman Great Plains 32" barrel a little in front of the lower thimble and get about a 24" barrel? I've been kicking around the idea of ordering a new 32" barrel and operating on it. Lyman sells fiber optic sights for the GP so all I'd have to do is cut a front dovetail.

I have my 32" GPH 50 set up with a Lyman target peep rear and target front. I could just pull the slide out of the rear sight, then install the 24" barrel and be ready for the deer thickets. Using that 32" barrel in the thickets was an exercise in frustration.

I can't whack off the barrel on the rifle now because I'm ready and waiting for some redneck to come by and start bragging on his new superdooper magnum eardrum buster. That's when I'll say, "I got an ol' sidehammer black powder rifle with iron sights, and I got $20 what says at a hundred yards it'll outshoot that $4,000 *** you got there."
