Below is a 360 grain bullet mold that Accurate Molds made for my Ruger SRH Alaskan .454 Casull. I want another mold made. I am thinking of having the shaded-in part of the mold removed. Thus, leaving me with a lighter, plain-base bullet. Would a cast boolit made to look like that be a good design? How would the shorter "bottom-half" effect the powder charge? Would bullet performance be hindered?

Thanks

If it were me I'd remove the bit from the bottom of the chamfer at the narrowest portion.

I like the first picture.

Yes, that's what I mean. The only reason is that the trailing edge is more likely to be perfect, not only from the mold but on engaging the rifling since there should be less trailing edge feathering likelyhood. I'm not an authority on it, that's just my thinking and further mods can be done if it doesn't work out.

Looks like a scaled up 358429 Lyman mold. With possibly a shorter nose. What about extending the base just a bit more??

actually it would be pretty indistinguishable [can't believe I spelled that right on the first try] from a 452664
