Broke my record today . Raked 3 lanes at the pistol range . In a 1 1/2 hours I had 11 buckets loaded and ready to go . Weighed the buckets when I got home . And the total was 1190 pounds . Marvin

You lucky, lucky man!!! If I worked 1 1/2 hours at our range I'd have about 1/2 a coffee can full.

if I work at it pretty hard, that's about 11 years worth of berm mining for me.

This is easy for range lead . But it still is work . Range saw a lot of use with all the new gun buyers . These are the same 3 lanes I raked 6-8 weeks ago . And the recyclable metal money sure is nice when shopping for molds .Marvin

This is JUST from raking? What type of soil is your range? How deep? I've been harvesting relatively small quantities off and on from a local range, but am planning on spending a Monday (range is closed Mondays and Tuesdays) soon to harvest as much as possible. Any tricks that you can help me with will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bank is sand . Range gets heavy usage and been there for over 50 years . The bank is packed with bullets and now there is little penetration of what is shot . I use a garden rake and pull them down . Then shovel them into the sifter and sift . All I really took was what was on top of the sand . Marvin

I spent a half hour the other day and ended up w/ 20 some lbs. I just need to spend 5000 hours one day to get a load like that...:-)

Thanks for the info.

My local range is relatively steep and with the baffling, it seems as though the rounds are penetrating for the most part. Plus the bank is mostly silty clay, so it is all kinds of fun to deal with.

I guess it is just going to be a bunch of sweat and back breaking work.

Thanks.

what are you using for a sifter? My 5 gallon bucket with a screen works, but it's slow.

I just got home from cleaning out the bullet trap at the indoor range and hanging new rubber baffles. I brought home nine 5-gallon buckets of lead; one is only half full but most are about 3/4. (I learned my lesson last year; bring plenty of buckets and don't overfill them. We have to haul them up a flight of stairs to get them out.) Another guy who was helping me took 2 almost-full buckets, and another filled up three 1-gallon paint cans with some of the better stuff that didn't have any trash in it.

Our local range is just the county gravel pit, it looks like the pics below.
Mostly all you can find are the jackets and a few full metal bullets and a few of the really heavy slow pistol bullets, everything else seems to just vaporize.
