Pipe is also notorious for having crud inside that holds moisture. The safe way to handle pipe is to straighten it out, cut it to useful lengths. Then stand the lengths of pipe upright in the empty pot to heat them up gradually and SAFELY drive the moisture off as the pipe melts.

I used a torch to preheat the lead pipe pieces, I also burned through any that had closed ends. My lead pipe was given to me n a 5 gallon bucket full of snow.:roll:
