I have a friend who don't belong to any computer boards so I am curious myself of his problem. I was at his house when he was casting bullets his alloy gets a purple looking skim on top, I said what did you put in your mix to make a purple skim on top? He said I don't know I just melt whatever people give me and go from there. So there is the question, What makes the purple looking skim on top? You skim it off and it comes back, He offered me alloy to try myself but I said I would stick to straight wheelweights.

Bingo . . .

Much too hot but if it is pure lead it won't hurt anything except it will slow down casting by needing to wait too long between pours for the melt to freeze.
