went in the local gunshop and they had a real nice tang safety 77r in 7x57. After all the struggling ive done with tang safety rugers and knowing the 7x57s were notoriously inaccurate i may need my sanity checked. It was just a cool old gun in a cool caliber and the price was right. Oh well i guess ill never learn.

I love the tang safety Rugers and 7X57 is the only 7mm I'd buy! I hope it runs well for you it not darn it all a new 257R may have to be ordered.

You're OK, Lloyd. I had one in .338WM that shot a shade under MOA. Had another in 6mm Rem that didn't shoot that well, but I blame myself, not the rifle. It was my first rodeo with a bolt action centerfire and the first bottleneck cartridge I loaded. I just don't think I put enough effort into it.

the 7x57 cartridge itself is VERY accurate one !
I don't have a ruger77, but I do have a ruger#1 in 7x57 and it shoots under MOA. I prefer a tang safety but have to admit that the tang safety on my ruger #1 can be moved from safety to fire with too little effort,,,its that touchy. Then again I was taught that the true safety was always my trigger finger

Won't discuss sanity :wink: but we all need a good challenge now and then and a pleasant surprise is kinda fun too. Sweet old cartridge to boot, from what I've read.

Lloyd , your sanity is just fine .... you saw , you liked , you bought .... I'm sure there's a Latin translation to that . Suffice it to say that is you came across and upper for the AR15 that used a twenty millimeter round at the right price you'd likely buy that too . Remember , them 'tater fields are a long way across :D:kidding:

Dad bought a tang safety 308 with the heavy barrel. She is a tack driver. I just passed a 6mm Rem with the heavy bbl. Don't need another project at the moment & it did not stay long.

Let us know how that one shoots!
