Hi, I just got a NEW Taurus 27/7 G2 3.5" in 40 S&W. After searching hi and low, I lucked into a new RCBS 2 cavity mold for 170 gr boolits.

I need some starting loads for them. They are 183gr out of WD COWW.
I have 231 and unique.
I don't want armor penetrating, I prefer low end loads. LOL Thanks

Try 5.5 grains of that Unique at a 1.125" coal. Its a fairly mild load from a Mike Venturino Handloader article.

I have the Lee 401-175 TC mold. Mine drop about 180 with range scrap, I size to .401, and lube with BAC. My standard load has been 5 grains of Unique which has worked flawlessly in 6 different factory barreled Glocks and two factory Taurus pistols. I also use the same charge with the Lee 401-145 SWC which is a nice target load.

When primers become more available I will be doing some load testing with the same boolits and charges but with the addition of some plain based gas checks. My other load tests with .45 ACP and 9mm with plain based checks tightened up the groups noticeably and I expect the same from the .40 S&W. I know these loads don't need checks as they aren't leading and accuracy was good but one hole groups are better :)
