I need to paint a couple of rifle barrels and need some help with which airbrush to purchase ebay has a kit with a small compressor for around 50.00

I'm guessing you don't have a full size compressor if you're looking at a kit?

The small airbrush compressors (without tanks) are really "chuffy" - since you get air output from each stroke, the air delivery isn't constant.

You could start off with something simple like a Badger 250 external mix:

If you're only gonna do a couple barrels, the 250 is fine.
If you're going to be doing more, I'd step up to the Paasche, or a Badger 350.

Agree with Bren that compressors without tanks don't deliver good airflow.
HIGHLY recommend your compressor has a tank.
