I'm just curious what the .480 shooters are shooting these days for their favorite bullet. For me right now I am shooting a 42gr. bullet that accuratemolds.com made for me and with the right amount of 296 I can get one shot groups under a inch all day long.

I had good luck with the RCBS 400gr boolit, also the lee 400g in my .480 Ruger SRH.

Now to get back to the one shot groups all day. That is so funny I spit my booze out! Yeah, it is drink time after hauling firewood and getting the tiller running plus fixing a gun and shooting.
I might want to try a lighter boolit, 350 to 400. Hard to get a 420 up to speed for the twist. That is the weight I use in the .475 and my twist is 1 in 15".

I only have the Lee 400gr on hand for my 480 Ruger. It works well enough for me and what I do with the gun. Either full tilt H110/W296 loads or sedate Unique loads.

+1 on the Lee 400 gr. in 480 Ruger over 21 gr. H-110.

The only one I have is a Accurate 477-420S and its quite accurate. I'd like to try something in the 390-400gr range, just haven't made myself save the mold funds for it yet.

Hey lefty the 420 I have is tom's 420v the only difference is it has a tangential nose instead of a secant and it seems to give it more bearing surface and that bullet with 22gr of 296 and a CCI 350 works fabulous

White eagle how do you like the 380 from Tom

bout perfect
I do believe that 420 gr of ol Lefty's use to reside here in the Eagles' nest

YEP it sure did, I'm happy with the boolit overall. If I had to do it again I'd want it a little lighter. I feel the 420 is just a bit much for the shorter .480 case. I'm VERY hesitant to push it any harder than I am now. Then again I'm getting over 1300 FT LBS so why do I need to go harder? LOL

I also put this 420 in front of some Trail Boss at 600fps and it still was VERY accurate and quite funny to shoot. Here you have this HUGE revolver cartridge, almost 1 oz boolit and mild report and you hear the boolit SMACK the paper at 50yds....LOL

Thanks again for the mold White Eagle!

I ordered this mold from Tom not alot of range time but it seems to shoot better than the lee 400gr

that is a very good looking bullet I have been looking at that one and also the 405gr that tom makes. I thinking of going with a wide fat nose with more bullet inside the case this time and trying to decide if I want a 400+-gr or something around the 385gr

fwiw
I have a LBT wfn mold that drops a boolit rite around 400 gr. if memory serves
again if memory serves it was a very accurate boolit
I believe that for the amount of bullet and the case combined with the powder charge needed it
was a good match and had good shot to shot consistency
not sure if its close to Tom's design or not
but I think you will be happy

He doesn't have a wide fat nose design yet but he will soon:)
