its my own wood!! ;) seriously i bought the blanks on line and a buddy of mine that does stock work as good as anyone in the country shaped and checkered and finished it. Personal i think its the prettiest gun in the safe.

I don't personally like a barrel that short but ruined? With that stock and case hardening?
Beautiful rifle, even if a bit short.

Yep, you ruined it. Will PM disposal instructions....:kidding:
Since you're not going to fall for that, can we get a little closer look at the wood? Looks pretty awesome from what I can see.
Nice socks!

Yup a lyman. Actually a steal lyman which isnt made anymore. New ones are pot metal like the williams.Tough for me to get anymore pictures right now. My desktop computer keeps crashing so its in the shop and this old laptop im using wont take the cards from my camera. The wood is nice of it but what the pictures dont do is give real justice to the case colars on that gun. There exceptional

Rifle looks nice. You need smaller feet or longer arms though.

LLoyd: what does the gun weigh now. My Cowboy weighs just 7lb 2oz, because the OEM wood is about as dense as a paper towel. Your's looks heavier?

I have been comtemplating fitting a better grade of wood to that gun to put some weight into it to make it a little more pleasant to shoot. I need to get it up into the 9lb range to soak up some recoil. Even light 300gr boolit loads get old pretty fast.

Randy

I have an 1894 Cowboy 24" in .44mag and it weighs 7lb 9oz!

gun does shoot well but it is a bit light for someone that is conserned about recoil. Maybe a lb lighter then a guide gun

Good morning
Purrrrrr Deeeeee ! That is nice ! Let's go drag it around a real nice river bottom I know on the east side of the state of ILL. Or come on down and we can latch it on to the Kaw and go desert walking !

"Maybe a lb lighter then a guide gun ." Great. I let my Guide gun see the pictures, and She thinks she's ugly now. I'm not gonna let her know about the weight thing and have her think She's fat too!

Very nice !

I like case color , but I gotta say I'm not an advocate of Turnbull's stuff . Just a personal thing .

Pound lighter than a Guide Gun is a good thing for a carrying rifle. OTOH my GG is an excellent carry gun even with a compact scope. Carries quite well slinged on my "off side" when negotiating the Caprock Canyons and other places here in TX. I like the integral muzzle brake on my early GG, suspect that's the only thing I'd add to OP's awesome 45-70.

that's an awsome rifle! you did'nt ruin it, you made it like you wanted. i'm not to fond of long barreled rifle's either. it's like carrying an 8ft. 2x4 around! i think Turnbull dose some great work, just to rich for my blood. i love color case hardening, maybe one day i'll have one done.
