VERY interesting to me as I live along the path they took to the Pacific and have always been interested in the Corps of Discovery. We discussed the rifle last semester in my Montana History class and did agree that that would seem to be a handy "cheap trick" to have around for impressing the locals. I was supprised to see that it looks quite differant than the only drawing I have ever seen of the rifle, it really has the look of any other rifle, even having a hammer! I could not imagine the damage that a guy could get if that cast iron let go while to were shooting, a face full of jagged metal is not my idea of fun! Thank you for sharing Bill.
