My friend Bryan has a Lee electric 4 lb. ladle casting pot and a RCBS dipper on the way from MidWay. The 2 items should arrive tomorrow.

He said he didn't have a lot of room for a large casting table. He said he would like the table to be light enough to pick up and carry outside so that he could cast outside when the weather permits.

I decided that I'd make him a casting table out of some scrap plywood that I had on hand.

The table may be a little high for Bryan, but the legs are made of 2 X 2's , so shortening them to his liking will be about a 5 minute job.

Any place that two pieces of wood touch there is wood glue and screws. This puppy should last a very long time.

The riser in the center of the table will hold the pot. There are areas to the right and left of the riser for ladles, cans for his cast bullets, cans for dross, etc.

The area on the bench where he will be dropping bullets has several layer of old blue jean denim to pad the surface and cushion the fall of the bullets.

It isn't a work of art, but he just might end up casting an awful lot of bullets with the table.

Looks like a long reach to the pot from the chair. Is that a shorter distance than it looks?

I plan to afix the Lee pot to the table, ( I like to anchor the pot with a pair of dry wall screws to the table for safety reasons ) then I'll have my friend Bryan sit down in his chair in front of it. Most likely we'll need to shorten the legs a few inches.

My idea was to make the legs long, then saw them to suit his individual taste as to the casting table height.

The Lee melting pot and RCBS casting ladle arrived today from MidWay.
Nothing to do but mount the pot to the table , put in some alloy and heat things up.

I took the 27" long legs and shortened them 2.5 ". Seems to be much more comfortable now.

I had to try it out. Works smooth as silk. I used one of these from 1972 up to about 1990 for all my casting needs back during " my early casting years ". I must have cast about 46 Billion bullets with that old Lee 4 lb. pot.

BvT :

Thanks,....I'm hoping that Bryan will get many yrs. of trouble free casting out of this one.

For anyone that is living in an apartment, etc. and has space limitations , ( but still wants to cast bullets ), this is a viable option.

That is a fine act of kindness. We should all have friends like you

Very interesting. I may swipe your ideas for my casting table. Good ideas there for storage and keeping things you need in reach instead of being covered up by stuff that seems to accumulate on a casting bench.

What a great friend you are, Ben, to do this for an individual who wants to cast. That table looks as strong as can be for casting. I've never sat down to cast. Maybe a new idea for me to try. I usually cast on my coleman stove sitting on our picnic table. I just take everything from my storage building to the picnic table and fire up that little coleman stove. I did get me about a 50 lb. pot with a flat bottom. I like it better than the little wobbly 20 lb. pot I got from fleabay. Cast on. And be safe. Teach him about the tinsel fairy before he actually starts casting esp. if water droppin' boolits. Them boolits look great. BC

He and I have both had a LONG TALK about the tinsel fairy.

Thanks,

Fellows , we all need to try and get as many young people interested in casting and shooting as possible.

As our govt. continues to become more hostile towards shooters & firearms ownership, we need all the friends ( voters ) that we can gather on our side of things.
