I had a large lot of older ammunition that included a bag of reloads in .38 Short Colt brass, 120gr cast boolit, and marked as having 2.6gr W-231. I finally got around to pulling them down to fertilize the flowers with the powder and reload with a known charge to use in my Security Six. These ended up being .685", not the .755" of .38 Short Colt. I have heard of people using the short Colt in shooting competitions, but not chopping them down to .380 ACP length. Anybody ever seen this before? I guess I will just use .380 load data in them. We have started calling my Ruger "The Dumpster" since we have been using up whatever brass we come across in it, from .38 Short Colt up to .357 Mag and everything in between including trimming down split cases to the next size down.

Some guys are using it in full moon clips to get very fast loads
in custom target revolvers chambered in .38 Spl or .357 Mag.
at .38 Short Colt length, probably somebody just trimmed some
wrong or wanted to see how short he could go.

Almost sounds to me it's a rimmed 9mm case. Federal made them for a very short time for Charter Arms for a pistol that they stopped making about 2yrs after it was introduced.

The uncut .38 Short Colt brass is about the same length as a 9mm case, .755". The shorter ones are .685".
