Nope don't wear one.

If it is to warm in the barn i have a fan that keeps the air exchanged.

I don't and see no need to, we're working at lower temperatures than lead vaporizes at.

Only time I wore one was when I was mining the indoor range, lots of dust in that operation and I was, literally, crawling in it. For that I used a supplied air system with the pump well back from where i was working and raised off the floor/out of the dust.

I don't wear one either. I cast in the basement with an exhaust fan in the window right above casting area. I smelt outdoors in the yard when neighbors are at work. Benefit of being retired.

Volitization temperature of lead is well above the melting point. No real need.

I only wear a respirator when casting when the lead reaches it boiling point to prevent the inhalation of the fumes ... 3,182°F (1,750°C)

Nope!

PS: That is a DUST respirator.

It will not help with fumes and molten lead is not going to make dust.

Then I guess I can take it out of my shopping cart!!

When smelting I do wear one with a fresh air inline, but I am working with range lead that is quite dusty.

I usually do. When I'm moving range scrap around, I've got dirt and dust that's lead contaminated stirred up. I already had the respirator with P100 filters from another project, so I figure I might as well protect myself.

I try to remember to put it on when I dump my tumbler out too.

I don't usually wear one while casting though.

I wear one (different model), while "smelting." Not while casting. It was given to me by Hospital, while undergoing stem cell transplant, I had to wear it everywhere for a while. Now, Only have to wear it during dusty environments, and Dr recommended during smelting as well.

I do when smelting, but not for the lead. It is for all the other interesting things that may have been tossed in with the lead.

A rather good day for wind today.

About 45-50 now and the dirt as well.
