I'm getting my Shotgun gear set for this Saturday when the Dove seasion kicks off our hunting season. Powder & cap horn are full and all that remains is the shot. The hunting bag is set with horn measure, wads and they usual items.

Anyone else getting ready.

I leave in the morning to set up my camp in the mountains. Archery season for deer and Elk starts Thursday. It ain't cast boolits, or black powder, but it is definitely a challenge that could drive you crazy!!
If I do well at the next 2 gun shows, I am also going to get a second Elk tag that I will be able to use my .54 cal for in November. It's cow elk only, but I hunted it last year and finally put my first elk in the freezer!

I did get kind of a head start on the season - took this little guy on the 21st of this month ----

I keep putting in for the firearms permits for antelope - about 12 years now - and never get drawn. So last year, I decided to try for them with my bow. This is my first one.:-D :-D

Good luck in the coming season!!:drinks:

Way to go, Don.
Archery opens this weekend for deer, elk, antelope, bear, and I believe grouse.
But, it is going to have to rain or snow before I go get too serious about it!

NICE WORK, 58!

Ditto on dove season opening Saturday here. I'm undecided on whether to brave the Opening Day (ALWAYS capitalized) onslaught of the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, or just wait until after the holiday and have the spots I hunt to myself. Fewer birds, but I detest crowding.

This year's deer tag arrived last week, same zone as last year--a few miles from the house. Even though the D-14 zone is only 60-90 minutes from the LA-Orange County population mass, I only saw other hunters on the few weekend days I hunted. Middle of the week I had to myself.

If this miserable heat will hold through dove season--then abate--life would be grand.

No Sundog. I use the store bought stuff. Cut my own wads but haven't tried dripping shot yet. I guess I fall short:-D
