View Full Version : "Wheelgun" Bbl. throats

First, not refering to the cylinder throat but the bbl. throat. As a reference , back in the late 80's in the hay day of pistol silhouette shooting ; out to 200 meters {220 yds}
one revolver manufacturer offered his target version with the bbl throated so that the entire bullet was inside the bbl. before any of the bullet contacted the rifling's. Their thought was that by doing this, it eliminated any ill effects on the bullet from any misalignment in the cylinder to bore axes .
Just looking for thoughts on this concept vs the opposite,where the bullet is engraving the rifling while still in the cylinder ???????????

Called a Taylor throat. A cure to help out of line cylinders that never panned out.
If it would have worked all revolver makers would use it.
IHMSA was won with factory forcing cones. Dan Wesson and Ruger revolvers.

Taylor throating is also supposed to help with frame constriction. But theres aother fixes for that problem too.
