It's a crazy market. I'm looking for a few pounds of powder suitable for .45-70 and mid-range loads for .30-06. 5744 or 2400 are tops on my list.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Patience. Seems more and more is showing up on store shelves. If you run across a can of Reloder #7, snag it. I think your 45-70 will like it. I use H4350 in my 30-06 but I'm not sure what you mean by "mid-range". I'm pushing j-words @ +/- 2500fps.

there are a lot of powders right in that same area that are just as suitable.
herco,800-x,steel,aa#9,4227,aa-1680,h-110.
they all do good work in those cases.
in fact I have used all the above [except the #9] in the 0-6 with good results.
the 45/70 does right well with 2400 through some pretty slow rifle powders.

IIRC, a 170 GC ahead of 16 gr. 2400 makes an excellent 200-yard load for military bolt action matches. On the firing line, you hear BOOM...BOOM... BOOOM... and then my POP! As long as it perforates paper and groups reasonably well and functions in my 03-A3, I'm happy. That's an Ed Harris load, BTW.

I have a lot of 800x. 12 lbs. Love it for full power loads. Just have to use the rcbs auto for the charge.
