Last night I found an old isssue of Shooting Illusrtated, and a guy made a quik mention of turning his 300 Winchester Magnum into a 35 Ultra Mag. Same belted case necked up to a .358.

Performance was said to be sub moa at 200yds with condom bullets.

I've never heard of the caliber, but has anyone here? Sounds like a possilbly a cast boolit re-barrel for my 300 whinny.. :drinks:

-and if tyhe rebarrel when wrong, maybe they could shoot for another try in 375?

Wouldn't this be a .358 Norma? Perhaps a hair longer, as I recall the .308 Norma it was made from is longer than the .300Win; of course, expanding the case might shorten it some.......And I have no interest in the RUM cartridges, but weren't they beltless?

The Remington shoulder whackers are beltless. The 308 and 358 norma Magnums are very well balanced cartridges and were very popular here in Australia for many years, not so common now.

Bryce Towsley necked the 375 Ultra Mag case (404 Jeffreys) down to 358 about fifteen minutes after the Ultras came out in 1999. The 358UMT is it's name, and it shoots condom bullets fassssssssst! 250gr Swift A-frame at over 3100fps.
