Jeff, hi they are K-frames you could have a round butt or a square butt on it. If you decide to change the grips check first.

The HKS #10 speedloader is what you need. Love those 10's, I have a 1967 10-5 that is very accurate and fun to shoot. Try 5.8 grains Accurate #5 under a 158 grain flat point. 875 fps out of a 4" tube and shoots to the sights.

Mine seems to have a "bull barrel" not the tapered one....

Jeff, the bulls are my favorite. I just put a little white paint on the front sight to make it easier to pickup. That and a set of hogue grips and I am in heaven.

Years ago the old guys around here would call that the "M&P" model or sometimes the HB . No matter huh? as long as it shoots great .

I love the model 10's. I have, I think 4 now, but more a while ago. I have only had one that never shot well and that was a specimine I got out of the bay. I love love love the model 10. One of my favorite carry guns is a 3 inch model 10 that has no bluing left on it, but it shoots great! A real squirrel and yote killer. My 158 grain load needs about a foot elevation at 50 or more yards to be dead on. A most wonderful design and points like a dream.

I plan on looking a little harder at Classic S&W's

Picked a 10-1 recently - 4" heavy barrel - excellent shooter and beautiful gun. Enjoy yours.

I have a pencil barrelled 10-5 and just like the looks better than the heavy barrel ones. Shoots better than me & usually goes to shoot with the 36 no dash. Fun guns & lots of history. Also, don't have to chase the brass around the firing line.
Enjoy shooting!

Jeff, congrats on your 10. Mine is one of my favourite revolvers both for the clean and classic lines to just look at as well as the ability to shoot well.

If you can find some Safariland speed loaders get them. The Comp II models are compact and release with a direct in push instead of having to twist a stem like with the HKS ones. Their Comp III models are a little larger but being intended for competition use they have a ejection aid spring that pushes the new rounds out of the speed loader and into the cylinder. Mind you the III's are too bulky to use anywhere but at the range.
