I like the 445 also.
there however is little to no data available for lower end loads.
when I don't wanna go mach 9 I use modified 44 mag data and work up.
7 grs of unique and 15 grs of 2400 are good starts.
aa#9 should do well, and herco should do nicely starting around 8 grains.
if mike sees this he should have some data too

Probly can't do much betterer than AA 1680 in the rifle. MP300 ought to be great, also 4227. If you had more room, or aren't pursuing HV then 4759 should work well. All of this with 300 grain projs in mind. The usual H110, etc work well with the 240s.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, However I received some older ( likely as old as I am ) powder manuals that came from Du Pont! And in the pages they list alot of data for 44 mag rifle loads using some of the powders not normaly thought of when looking at magnum pistol. I wonder if this would be worth investigating a little further , As in a rifle , or carbine length tube all the powder would have a fighting chance to burn. I will see if I can find the listed data for reference sake. I am curious myself as I shoot a 14" contender ( but I am looking for full power ) Ram buster!

I have a good fair amount of AA1680 and 4227 so that will cover the high end loads.I want to work up a plinking type load for the 240s in the range of 44 special mid range loads but don't want to use filler. Thanks again for the help!

My first inclinations for reduced loads with 250 gr boolits would be Lil Gun which you can reduce, 4227, and 2400 also. 300MP might reduce enough and still burn well enough maybe. If you want to really slow down, Blue Dot should be very accurate still. The case is too large with anything faster, go ahead and use dacron puffs.

My 10" Dan Wesson loves AA 1680 with 300 gr. XTPs .

For 44 special mid range loads, I would think trailboss would be the ticket

I have the Contender loading manual #2 it has datta for the 445 it was developed for silhouette.
Also From what I've read it doesn't lends itself to reduced loads.
There are 3 powders listed for the 445- 296,H4227 and AA-1680 it was also designed for Large rifle primers.
My book has datta for J word bullets from 180 grn to 300 pm me if you are interested.
It has no info for cast Boolit.

I have a 24" 445 Encore with 1-16 twist. Thinking the faster twist would all for lighter loads. 1680 seems to be the best, RCBS 240 Sil with 37.5 grains of 1680 gave 1.5" groups at 125yds. Load of 34 - 35 grains seems to work almost as well will less recoil and muzzel blast. Tryed 296 and accuracy wasn't that good. LilGun is on my do not use list. 3 shots and the barrel was extremely hot.

I still miss my 7445 Dan Wesson, burned up pounds of W680 in that gun. AA1680 is a close second to it as W680 was discontinued while I owned it.

I used Unique with a 230gr SWC GC in my 445 SM. Start with 44mag starting loads and work up. IIRC I used 11grs of Unique but I have sold the H&R I had rechambered and don't have the data any longer. This is a 44mag load off the Alliant website so should be safe but do your research and be safe.
