Posted this over at ASSRA and they suggested I might get more feedback here.

Hey guys. I just received my NIB Pedersoli Sharps and along with that ordered some 500gn RNFP cast bullets. Here> http://tinyurl.com/cp3e3eg

Anyway, I cannot find any smokeless load data for this particular bullet and was wondering if anyone is using a similar shaped bullet in their rifle using Springfield/Trapdoor load data -- < 18000 cup. I can find data for the RN 500gn bullets but they seat about 315 thousandths shallower than the RNFPs. When seated to the crimp grove the RNFP OAL is 2.520 and the RN is at 2.835 OAL.

I'd like to seat the bullets in the groove and that is why I'm asking if anyone would offer up their load data but I could just not seat to the groove and use the RN data as a last option.

Thanks in advance.

A 100% charge of IMR4064 will put you right at 18,000 psi. Also, any powder slower than IMR4350 is safe with a case full, light or no compression.

I had very good success with 60gr. GOEX 3F for the last 15 years. I will be loading and testing Swiss 3F and see what it does. I know you're looking for smokeless, but don't write off the black stuff. Cleaning the gun is actually pretty easy too.

You are shooting a single shot. That particular crimping groove means nothing.
If you need to use that bullet seat it out until it touches the rifling.

Not sure of the chamber pressure but i had excellent results with my Browning BPCR in 45/70 with 50.0gr of 4831 and the Saeco #520 540gr fp bullet @ 1,325 fps, 25 shots in 2 1/4 inches @ 200 yards
with a 6.5X20 leupold scope.

I have had good results with my pendersoli sharps rifle with black powder 2 f goez 65 grns compressed with a card wad to finger seat the bullet just of the riflings. The lube in these bullets may not be compatible with black powder though. SPG lube nasa lube bullplates lube are all very good with black powder, also there are home made recipes in the lube section. I have always shot black powder in my 45- 70s with great results. Compress the powder with a die not the bullet. When everything is right clean up is no problem.
