Howdy I am new here, at least under this name since it did not remember my old one...

During some of my experiments in loading 44 Specials and 44 mags, a friend gave me a bag of .430 caliber 207 grain semi wad-cutter hollow points which had been gas checked.
He had no idea where he had found them....

Well it turns out that they shoot like a house-on-fire from most 44 Specials I have tried.
The problem is that I can find any more and nobody seems to know what mold they came from....

I figured this would be the place to find the answer....

The slugs in question are of course the gas checked slug and this is how they shoot from a 2.1 inch barreled Taurus UL 44 special.

You probably won't find that specific mould easily. Your boolits look like Lyman mould 429215 which is a 215gr ish Semi Wadcutter with gas check.

That mould was at one time available as a Hollow Point design also, however they were rare even then.

The solid version is still available from Lyman and all of those who sell Lyman stuff. They also show up on the Swap&Sell here occasionally.

Looks like a 429215 to me too. Hollow point would get it to about the weight you give.

I guess a 215 grain solid would be more than just fine with me for snub nose 44 special loads and mid-range 44 mag loads.
They weigh 207 grains with the gas check on them and after they are lubed.

For some reason every 44 pistol I have tried likes those bullets and also the 255 (really 252gr when I weigh them) grain Keith design jobs sized to .430. On the right side of the photo.

the other one is a facsimile of the 429241.
you can have the mold hollow pointed by Erick at hollow point molds.

It does look like the old Lyman mold I used to have. Traded it to Erik for some work, it was just too light for my liking in the 44mag. It would make a good 44sp load though.

While my heavier old model 24 likes bullets in the 240-255 grain range for accuracy... I have a couple alloy 44 special snub nose's that like the slightly lighter slugs.

My wife has a SBH in 44 mag with the 3.75 barrel and loves it. She shot it with some medium/warm loads she had bought to build up her brass supply. She asked for some plinker loads so I put some together. The only mold I had was the Lee C429-240 SWC so I downloaded that to about 900 fps which she thought was fine. Recently, I did some horse trading and scored an old Lee 429-208 WC. They don't even catalog the wad cutter design in the 44 any longer. This mold is a single cavity but I don't think that will be much of a handicap. She shoots a box or so from the 44 and then shoots the heck out of her Glock 23, either with the stock barrel or a Lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel. I'm looking forward to trying, um I mean letting her try some wad cutter loads in her SBH :)

I sat down one night and tossed a bunch of slugs from an old 185 grain full wad-cutter mould.
They are as big around and they are long... They work OK, but nothing special and they tumble if I load them over 950 fps.

15 yards , snowing, over a tool box

185 grain full wad-cutter
7.5 grains Power Pistol
WW brass, WLP
1.219 col roll crimp
Taurus M-445 UIL 2.1 inch bbl=-903 fps & a 1.5 inch group
S&W M-24 6.5 inch bbl= - 1003 fps and a one hole group

FLoat Pilot, good to know. I am hoping for something with that kind of result, that of the M24 that is. I am hopeful the 208 WC will do as well given that I will be loading them in mag brass and seated to fit the chamber to where they center in the throats correctly. Thanks for the range report.
