Anyone here shooting the SAECO 165 gr TC, the number 311 ? From the picture on the mold chart, it appears to be a tapered design. How is it shooting for you ?

I was considering the Lyman 311672, but it is only available as a two cavity. Of course, I could have it for around $55. The SAECO is a available as a four cavity for around $125.

Its just that I have the SAECO 301 and absolutely love it, as well as the quality of their mold. I do tend to need a lot of bullets, so the four cavity feature isa plus.

Patrick;

I recently bought one of those .30-caliber SAECO designs, but for the life of me I can't recall which one it is (I'm at work right now).

What I wanted to ask, was "How many bullets do you need?"

The reason I ask is that David R reported that yesterday he cast 396 (!) 311466 boolits in 1/2 hour using "my" speedcasting technique with a 2-cavity mould. His post is #10 on the "controlling moulds, annealing gaschecks" thread on this same Cast Boolits forum yesterday.

That's a faster rate than I've ever gotten, but then, I'm a sedate and easy-going older gent who enjoys smelling the roses, and I "only" cast 400-500 per hour with a 2-banger mould.

I do like the 4-cavity Lymans, which can give me over 1000 per hour on a good day when I'm "motivated", but 400 to 600 per hour from two cavities is pretty respectable. You may want to try this method.

I have the #311 and it shot good in my old 30-06 and seems to shoot good in my 30-30 but I have never put the 30-30 on paper with that bullet. Good enough for me anyway as I am satisfied with "pretty good accuracy" and have never tried to achieve sub MOA groups. The 30-06 did as well as 1-1/4" 5 shot groups at 100 yds. with no extra effort on my part. So, the bullet shows potential as a very accurate bullet but I have not wrung it out.
