I was having a discussion with a friend today about my 1899 in .303 savage , We were trying to figure out how long it has been since a rifle came out of the factory chambered in .303 savage . I was thinking pre WW2 but I am not sure . So I figured I would throw it out here . Anybody know?

Accoding to an article in the "American Rifleman" magazine, production of Savage rifles in 303 Savage caliber ended at the end of WWII.
I doubt that very many were made after 1940 because of war production restraints.

Actually it was just prior to WWII. During the war, Savage was totally involved in war production, and when they started back into peaceful pursuits, the .303 (along with the .22 High Power) didn't make the cut. That doesn't mean they threw away barrels they had in stock in those calibers. Occasionally a rare post-war example shows up in one of those two chamberings, but the consensus is that they were either a very special order, or a factory replacement barrel that got switched onto a post war gun.

A 2 year window is plenty close enough for me
