I just cast the first batch from my new Accurate mold, and I gotta tell you, y'all(hey-I'm from Alabama) were spot on. Tom is a wizard. This baby started dropping boolits that were drop dead georgous right from the get go. You do'nt have to beat the stuffings out of the handle, just open it and out drops the boolit. My 586 and 686 both have .357 throats, so thats what I'm going to size these to and lets see what happens when 13.5 grs. of 2400(my personal favorite) boots them in the behind. I can hardly bear to shoot these beautiful things!!

Also try a bit over 16 gr of H110. Looks like a clone of the Lee 358 158 RF with
the beveled base removed. That boolit, unmodified, has been a really accurate one for
me with the above load.

Very nice looking mold and boolits.

I like that design, as it looks to be the clone of the Lee 358 158RF, which I also have. I had the bevel base removed on the mold. MtGun44 mentioned that his was accurate, and mine is also. Tom is a wizard, I have only one of his molds, the 43-250K, but it is one of my best molds. Tom will be getting more of my money real soon, as I have several molds that I want from him.

Yeah, I have not had a lot of luck with beveled base boolits(ala Magma). The accuracy just was'nt there in my experience, but I guess all the commercial casters use that mold because it(1) is available,(2) is easy to start in a case. But--Accurate Molds to the rescue. I ordered 500 of the LBT design boolits from Grizzly Cartridge in Dec and what I got was 158 gr. beveled base Magma's cause Mike Rintoul told me his mold broke!! Duh, update the %^&$# website, Mike. But at any rate, I finally did what I should have done to start with and buy my own custom mold cut like I wanted. If it do'nt hit a bull in the ash, it's my fault!!!
I will tell you that what everybody says on this site is true about Toms work. 1st class.

Yeah. FFunky, indeed. Wonder what the hole on the end of the sprue plate is for? Interesting.....

I bought one from another member here in .452 and it is just plain awesome! Congrats.

I have a few of Toms molds, some with this newer sprue plate he is using I know this personal preference but mounting the mold in the handles so that the hinge is away from you allows me to open it with mt thumb mutch easier, also if you are using clww don't bother with adding any tin as without the front driving band the mold base and all fill out fine without it, nice mold rnfp molds are my favorite.

Huskerguy, that is a 160H. I told tom that I was going to use 95-5 lead to tin, but decided to change the melt later and wound up with a 150 gr boolit. Not a problem for me and I got a boolit as hard as woodpecker lips!!

Lefty, I live in Alabaster, right off I-65. How far are you from the guys at Alabama Ammo. I missed David at the B'ham gun (I could'nt go) show and I wonder if he sells powder from the shop in Madison?

You know, I thought the same thing about the sprue plate untill I used it, and I love that thing. When the melt hardens, I just turn my wrist 90 degrees and lower the mold to within about 1 1/2" above the bench and tap the sprue plate and the bench top stops the plate from spinning around too far, and of course the boolits just almost fall out of the mold. I have'nt sized any of them yet because in my haste to order the mold, I forgot to add the flat top punches and I "aint" gonna bugger the nose of these up with the wrong top punch.

I'm not to sure who runs it now but I have tried a few times to do business and someone has been rather RUDE with me so I turned my business to others.

What do those weigh cast with WW?

murf205
04-01-2013, 09:35 AM
I do'nt know since I have used up all my WW. The mix was 16 lbs pure lead, 2 lbs lino, 1lb tin and they weigh 151grs instead of 160 and they seem to be quite hard, although I do'nt have a way to measure hardness on a numerical scale. As I said before, I told Tom to make the mold for a softer alloy and then I changed what is left of my mind because I help a friend of mine plant for deer at his club and we run into hogs a lot more frequently than we used to(who does'nt) and I carry my 4" 586. I think that a little stiffer boolit at around 1150-1200fps will help penetration. DCLTEX, if you live in Tx, I prolly do'nt have to tell you about hog problems!

6632466325663266632966330Ok guys, here's the brutal truth. The 586 has open sights and this is about as good as it usually shoots-fliers are on me. Obviously the 686 does a lot better with the scope but it has traditionally been a more accurate revolver that the 586. All were shot at 30 yds. I have a 4" 629 that is going to get a mold from Tom as soon as I can make up what's left of my mind( hey, I was raised in the 60's). I have a 429421 2 hole Lyman that is about 35 yrs old and still drops a very accurate boolit, but like the post says,Tom's got me hooked.
