JFYI i measured driving bands of both linotype boolits from my new 30 caliber moulds using a micrometer. Boolits will be shot from my Winchester 94 (1986 vintage) and Thompson Contendor 300 Whisper

RCBS 30-150-CM on left. rear band .3109", forward most band .3112", bore ride .302 (snug fit in barrel)

Lyman GC 311041 on right. rear band .3092" forward most band.3097", bore ride.2983 (loose fit in barrel) Lyman gas check fits perfectly snug before crimping and sizing.

These will be lubed and sized to .310 using my Lube-a-matic with matching top punch. I will be using SPG lube along with IMR 4198 and 5744 powders

I wonder which boolit will shoot the best...any guesses?

I have the 30-150-CM. I wish mine would cast at 310, but can't get anything larger than 309, even with linotype. Nevertheless, I love mine and I currently am 'beagleing' the mold to get it to 310". My late 60's vintage Win 94 loves these things with my 32-20 "duplication" loads using several different pistol powders. I have not tried any other types of powders yet.

Bones37, What are you measuring your boolits with? A micrometer is more consistant and accurate than dial caliper.

A Mitutoyo model#103-260 micrometer is what I'm using to measure the boolits.

I am working with a 30 150CM mould, Lyman No, 2 lead, 18 grains of
4895 is shooting the best. Unique 8 to 10 grains hasn't produced
any good results. Today I cast some really hard bullets. 75% Linotype,
20% sterotype and 5% monotype. Will shoot them on Tuesday.
I will try 21 23 25 grains of 4895. Yes that RCBS mold will cased
.311 and I size .311, Bullets weight 140 grains with the hard mix.
That hard mix has a lot of antimony and may get a bit larger than .311.
I will report back on there final size.

The RCBS instructions state that their Cowboy moulds were designed to be used with softer 20/1 lead tin alloy. The 20/1 will also cast a little smaller than linotype. The RCBS linotype boolit in picture has a bore ride that measures .302", this may be too large to chamber in my 94. I may have to use a softer 20/1 alloy to make it chamber. I will try the linotype boolit and post results soon.

OK...I tried chambering the linotype RCBS boolit. Boollit (cartridge) chambered easily

I am using straight COWW with approx 2% tin added, and mine measure 301 nose, and 311 bands. I'm glad to hear those boolits chamber, kinda gives me an idea of what to expect. I can feel a *very* slight resistance when chambering, and there are very light engraving marks on the nose of mine.

May I ask why the straight lino?
Are these for targets or for hunting?
Just curious.

To old to walk very far, hunting days are gone. Just experimenting
nowdays. Rarely make 50 rounds the same. Paper punching is boring
if you get the same results everytime.

Linotype fills the mould verywell and makes purdy boolits plus gives you actuall deminsions of your boollit mould. These linotype boollits are for target only. I will cast using a softer alloy when hunting.

According to April issue of Handloader magazine Mike Venturino uses strait linotype in all his military surplus rifles. Very easy to cast using strait linotype. Perfect for target shooting but much too brittle for hunting.
