In his haste to meet Allah, he loaded it nose first.

I went back and checked, it was loaded fins down.

Did this motor round explode in the tube launcher or after it exited the muzzle.

How can that happen? Do you have to preset the contact fuse?

Yes it was loaded correctly....was jesting. It looks like it detonated just as it clears the tube........with a happy ending as the result.:-D

One less raghead :drinks:

Just got this one this morning in my e-mail. It appears that the explosion is at the base of the mortar, not from an exiting round.
Years ago when I was working in South Africa the SDF use to sell captured weapons and ordinance to other countries. The guys down there hated to use some of the commy crap themselves because the QC was so bad. Seems that RPGs exploding right out of the tube weren't all that uncommon. That tends to make you unpopular with your buddies as well. I guess that if the round's explosive went off in the tube it would do that. I don't think that it is all that thick. I was a tanker so never messed with a mortar.
Booby trapped, maybe, we did that during Viet Nam, or possibly QC.

I've watched that clip every morning since it was first posted--gets the day off to a good start.

For what it is worth, I was discussing this clip with my neighbor, and he says there is a longer unedited version on his Paratrooper forum.

He said that it appears from that version that the guy loaded a dud, looked around at the tube after it didn't fire, and then dropped another loaded round in on top of it. That would probably do it......

A real rocket scientist.........

I'm just hoping the guy running the camera ate a lethal bit of frag as well...

Don't mortar bombs have contact fuse ignition when they hit target???

Sounds like this son of a hateful dog ate the boolit, don't go to Allah, don't pass GO, go straight to the nether regions and meet his hateful religious leaders who have gone before him. (What, no virgins) :lovebooli

Depending on the type of round, the shell can be armed in the tube. Current issue US rounds have to spin a given number of turns before they arm. However, WW2 vintage US 60MM rounds armed in the tube. It was some type of contact fuse that activated when the round struck the bottom of the tube. In an emergency the round could be used as grenade by striking it on a hard surface and then throwing it. I suspect this is a Soviet Block mortar and may arm in the tube. If so, a dud with a second round dropped on it will give the result shown in the clip.

In a previous life I was a US Army 1543 Mortar Platoon Leader.

in "saving private ryan" during the last stand in the demolited village, they used 60mm motor rounds as hand grenades cause the tube was destroyed.

They said it was taken down for violation of U-tube policies what ever that is. IF you REALLY want a copy drop me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send it. If you have dial up it might not work to well.
