I've been casting for years for my 45 auto. Just now getting into casting for my rifles. Never had to use gas checks before and its foreign to me. I would rather use copper gas checks but have found some cheap aluminum ones on eBay. Is there anything wrong with these and is there anything I should be looking out for?

Yes there is plenty wrong with them. They're bowls with a rounded bottom. They aren't flat with a sharp bottom edge. When you seat them, the base of your bullet is rounded like you'd get from an incomplete pour on a cast bullet. Of course, this is just my experience and others might have had better luck. My first experience with the aluminum checks were positive until i bought 22 checks. They were partially formed, ragged edged, and bowl like

I sell aluminum , Gator copper checks gas checks on EBay and my website. I personally shoot aluminum gas checks. I have sold millions of aluminum checks and have many repeat customers world wide. I can fit bullet molds that are almost a hundred years old. I have also failed to fit molds with shanks that are thousandths of inch to small requiring special tools and forty thousandths material. Are they accurate, clean shooting and cheaper ? Yes

FLHTC, if you bought 22 aluminum checks from me. I would be glad to refund your money or replace your checks. James

I have bought yours without an issue but it seems many are jumping on the band wagon today and with questionable quality. Thanks for standing behind your product. Something i wish more ebay sellers would do.

Why pay ebay price? If it is 30's 35's or 45's you are looking for I got that covered at a cheaper price than ebay.

I started buying the aluminum gc from sagebrush7 on ebay and had good luck with them. I discovered he has a website and i buy there direct now. Google "Sage's Outdoors".

I'm using Sage's checks on .30, .32-40, 38-55, .375, 9.3mm, and .45 rifle boolits; and 357 pistol boolits. The .375 rifle checks are the only ones that I could get to work properly on boolits made in the NOE 9.3mm 280 gr mold.

I'm very happy with the checks and the service.

I was gifted some of sageoutdoors .30 checks. They crimp well onto the Lee 309-150-FP and Lee 309-170-FP. They stay on to the target - I have a bullet trap for recycling my alloy and the checks are all in there with the projectiles. I have not actually tried any other checks so can't compare as yet. Lyman copper .30 GC are $AUD73 per thousand in Australia:

I want to thank everyone who helped test the 9.3mm checks for me. The problem is some like the .375, 9.3mm in .0167 or the 9.3mm in .019 aluminum. Hope you all remember what works best! James

I use Sage's .375 checks on 38-55, 9.3mm, and .375 boolits.

Actually the .375 and the 9.3-.0167" gas checks both worked on those NOE boolits just fine. What i meant to say was that no other brand that i tried worked for me.

James,
I just applied my first aluminum .45 gas checks today. They look great–thanks!
Also have some .303s for later.

I bought some of Sage's 30 cal. alum. gas checks on ebay and then later some 30 cal. copper checks from him. He will be getting all my gas check business in the future. Outstanding product at a very reasonable price.

I have never used any aluminum gas checks before and have only recently started casting again. I bought 500 copper 35cal from sage not realizing that he was a member on here. He sent me aluminum instead of copper but was fast to remedy the problem. I have sized those 500ct and have now ordered 1,000 more. Although I haven't shot them yet I do like the quality, service, and "looks" of his products. I almost offered to buy the aluminum ones from him but he was so fast that a return shipping envelope was enroute before I could shoot an email. Maybe I'll get a few and try them one day and be able to report back on which one perform the best for me. There's just something sexy about a copper skirt on an ol' gal that keeps me from going aluminum. It just looks "funny" to me.

Although it must be said–silver does go pretty well with silver!
I just took the plunge with Aluminum, the price was right and they're available.
And I hadn't heard any negatives. These Lee 300 gr. RF will be loaded into a 454 Casull that a friend owns.

I'm sure he'll report back to me, and I'll report back here.

I been buying Sage's checks for a while but i didn't realise he made copper checks too. Got to check that out. I sell some bullets here locally and some buyers do prefer the copper look. Although for myself I never noticed any measurable difference between copper and aluminum checks.

We couldn't keep up with the demand for checks so we imported some of them there Gator Checks from LA. I was able to slip off ( left the boy working!) and do some fishing in my pond and caught some those pesky crappy.
