Does anyone know what action was used for the S&W 1500 rifle? Would it have been the small ring commercial 98 action by HVA? I recall that in the 60s there was a line of rifles called "Husky" that used the small ring action. I think later S&W was selling them under their name. Also, Sears sold the 51 and 5100 series of rifles, and the one I had, was built on a HVA small ring action. Don't remember ever seeing one of the S&W rifles when they sold them under their name.

I could be wrong, but, I thought Howa made their rifles.

Me too...it was Howa as I recall. That's the same company that makes the Weatherby.

Howa came later, the early S&W's used the Husky action. It is a very, very smooth and superior action but I don't know large or small ring. Likely both, depending on the caliber.

S and W 1500 is the Howa. It was also at one point a Mossberg, a Wetherby Vandgaurd and maybe others. They are a good solid rifle and most I have had were good shooters. Out of 15 sold only one had a problem and that was a crown damaged in shipment.

I checked some ads on Gunbroker and the S&W 1500 rifles for sure have a different style action than the commercial 98 Mauser. Probably the Howa action. There's also one on there, HVA Imperial or something, that likely does have the HVA action, but hard to tell from the pics.

Was lookin thru the Numrich gun parts and came across the listing for the S&W 1500; Hard to tell sometimes from their drawings what your lookin at. Thay's why the question.

Thanks for your input. :-D
