View Full Version : How many bullets do you have made?

I was told I was nuts for making so many bullets. I would like to know how many others have sitting around ready too load. I just started making my own last month, so far I have 1000 .358/125gr made. Am I nuts? I want too hear from everyone that enjoys reloading like I do.

I have more than 21 as that's all the higher I can count.

Define made. I have thousands cast but not sized. Many thousand are sized and lubed.

I have a feeling there are a few here who have well over 10 K on hand ready to go.

As for being nuts, is there such a thing as too many bullets? Cast and size as time allows. Nothing worse than wanting to Load something and having no bullets.

About 200 of the 250-k for the 44.

Not enough...

Not enough, at least of the type I'm shooting right now.

Ready to load - 20,000 or so.

How is it possible to be prepared and be nuts? You are nuts if you NOT prepared. Just my $.02

I would feel uncomfortable with less than 10,000 bullets on hand. If you shoot multiple calibers and load for more than one shooter it affects your "comfort level" or "nuts" level.

They don't eat anything, cast away! I can shoot them faster than casting so good to have a stockpile.

I've made into boolits and SHOT many, many 5-gallon buckets of wheel weights, as I'm sure a great portion of the membership has. Keep doing it for enough years and you'll laugh at the time you thought 1K cast and lubed boolits on-hand was a bunch.

If you're addicted to lead, you're in good company here.

I have a couple thousand of the same .358-125gn boolits cast in boxes not sized or lubed yet and around 500 of the .452-200gn LSWC I just cast tonight......

Most of the time, I count them when they are loaded but merely weigh them before they are sized. My last casting session was about 8 lbs of .690 round ball. The time before that was about 9 lbs of 225-415 55 grain boolits. Let me tell you, it took a lot longer to do the little 22s. When my 22 CheckMaker gets here, I'll be busy!

Waaaaay more than i need. Realized i had a few thousand too many of a particular boolit so remelted them to be made into shapes i use more frequently.

Casting was so fun, i figured why not just keep going? Next thing i knew my ingot pile was gone and the mountain of boolits was impressive. And Ill bet that only about 300-400 of those ever got shot, as i got more discriminating about boolit diameter and edge/base quality, and remelted them. It was a good trial into the workings of my brand new furnace.

Two great benefits from making too many boolits:
-more practice casting, more knowledge gained about mold temp regulation and pot temp regulation and effect
-have easy to use little ingots of known alloy & weight for future melting

Im no pro but i think casting relentlessly is a big part of getting better, whether u have time to shoot them all or not

How many bullets do you have made?

Hundreds of thousands but only a little over 6,000 in the last month.

Not enough. I'm not keeping count. I sold all my j words to fund my casting supplies and equipment. I see no need in keeping count for me anymore. I use to be particularly that way but I find more joy in just go go go

What Gear said. I used to think that a thousand was an incredible amount. I enjoy casting boolits. Lubing and sizing not quite as much but it is a great hobby. Very soon you will have more than you want to count and that's ok. There are many ways to spend your disposable money. A lot of people just won't understand why you have so many but I don't understand why people spend so much time and money on major sports. The next time someone starts giving you a problem about casting, tell them-- that's why there is more than one channel on a TV. Not everybody is the same.

I prefer to convert alloys to CB's rather than store the lead & such. I have sufficient cast & ready but can always make more.

When I saw this thread, I figured I had a lot more than most, but I guess not. I've got maybe 800 cast among the three calibers I shoot. Now I feel inferior!

is the question how many are in cases ready to shoot? answer umm 3- 4' wide x 6' tall steel shelves and a wood one not quite that big.
not counting shotshells

or how many are cast and sized waiting to be loaded?
I don't really have a number, and would give myself a headache trying to figure it out.

Never enough but more than is needed for right now. Plus if the excrement strikes the windmill I've still got six fifty cal ammo cans full of loose surplus 7.62 Nato and a whole bunch of those nasty high capacity magazines stuffed with the same stuff from Portugal and So. Africa.

I've got 22,000 .358 185gr WFN cast and ready to be sized/lubed.

Boxes an boxes of lubed/sized. A cabinet full of loaded. And piles of ingots sorted by BHN. I'm kinda enjoying watching all the 'panic buying'. Tried telling people for years to stock up. Would they listen to me? Nooooooo....

Tens of thousands over the years. At any given time I usually have 5K on hand for various calibers.

Not enough cast and not enough loaded. I don't like to keep unloaded bullets around since they're more useful for self protection in ingot form ;)

I have way more boolits cast, sized, and lubed ready to be loaded than I have brass to load them into! Sometimes I go back to some of the boolits I cast when I was first starting out, and I'll melt them down as they no longer meet my standards of how a boolit should be. That's the nice thing about boolit casting, if you don't like the way they come out you can always melt them down and redo them, even if it's years later.

Thousands sized and lubed and thousands cast and waiting. Just need more time for shooting.

After I lube and size the run of 8mm's I poured on Tuesday, I estimate I should have enough to last until around this same time next year. Of course, that estimate is subject to revision, contingent upon acquisition of new gun(s) in a caliber I don't already cast/load or new mould(s) for guns I already own.

Thousands of handgun boolits. Not near as many riffle boolits.

I've got loaded at least a thousand 38's and 357's, over 500 44's, 300 or so 30-30's, and a couple hundred 45-70's. Probably 3-4000 cast and ready to load and at least 3 times that many as cast only. Dale

probably around 20K give or take.

Like to size and lube as I go along as that's the least 'fun' part of the whole experience

Thousands...even boolits for rifles/calibers I no longer have. Prolly 2000 45's, 500 each of .358, 224, .308, and .375. Thousands of odds and ends, plus a 5 gallon bucket of good boolits sized and lubed for guns I no longer have or am likely to reacquire.

03-28-2013, 11:17 AM
I don't shoot as much as some but I try to maintain at least 1000 each for the various handgun calibers I own. I'm just getting into casting for the rifle calibers so probably don't have more than a couple hundred of each of those............ I even found close to 1000 for a caliber I don't even have any more. . I could probably sell them right now for a pretty good price but with lead getting harder to come by I think I will just hang on to them to melt down later...............

Anyone that thinks I'm going to count all the boxes of bullets I have cast and lubed, let alone the ones that are just cast and not sized and lubed is crazier than I am.

Guesstimating, 10's of thousands, heck it might be even in the 100's of thousands. Lead in ingots? A ton or 2.

For each calibre I load I keep a gallon jar of prepped brass w/3 lines on it green at about 3/4 yellow at 500 red at 1/4. I try to keep a full 30cal can of boxed loaded stuff for each. I've marked off my mayo/peanutbutter jars for boolits like the gallons above but more like 200/400/600 go load some your overstocked.

How many have I cast ? No clue . My daughter and I shot about 1000 rounds at NCBS last yr. last August i took some folks out and told them as we were packing up we had shot up about $300 worth if it was store bought. The 3 girls insantly had that "if my husband did this" look and the guy kinda pasted a little. Guessing 25k keepers over 6 years or so.

I guess I have 2000 sized &lubed, ready to load. I probably have another 3000 cast in containers.
Certainly enough for ME until the weather turns. Castin season is coming !!!. Mike

i tend to keep at least 500 cast and ready to go for each of the calibers i load.

Possible, but you're in good company. I have 12,600 (+/- 100) ready to load at the moment. And I'm feeling a mite "light".

I have about a thousand of each handgun boolit I commonly use and trying build on that, and a lot less for the rifles. I realized real quick last summer I do not want to be casting during a typical Texas August ever again.

I don't have a count
But I have 7 gallons of 45acp
5 gallons of 40 S & W
1 gallon 44 mag
1/2 gallon of 357

And the weather is getting warmer and I am ready to make more

I try not to fire up the pot unless I think I will get at least 1K if casting from the bottom of the pot or a few hundred if ladle casting. Right now I just finished sizing up 270 lbs of H&G 68's I cast 2 summers ago. I figure it is about 10K bullets. I have all of my .38's and .40's loaded. There are a few thousand various rifle bullets around.

As soon as I get moved I will be rolling thru a pretty good slug of lead to remedy the deficiencies. I have several new MiHec and NOE molds that haven't been molested.

Cast .358 a coffee can full sized and lubed, .308 a coffee can full sized GC lubed, .224 a coffee can full lubed, sized GC, 45-70 a 100 rds lubed. 5 sizes of round balls (how many?) a bunch! several cans and bags full.

swagged .40 2500 loaded ready to pull bullets ( dam LEE Turret powder indexing ) 1500 ready to load. .224 3000 swagged ready to go just loaded 500 last week.

Like many, about 20,000 pre-cast that are put aside and just need lubing and sizing to be ready to load. Mostly pistol stuff in .38 / .44 / .45, but a fair bit of .30 / .35 and .375 rifle too ...

Count and figure all you want if you want a total but I have add to that since the pic was taken and have several ammo cans loaded. That should help you feel better about how many you have on hand lol.
