View Full Version : RCBS , 30 cal. , 130 gr.
I bought this one from Beagle.
I know little about the mold.
Beagle said he shot it in his 06' and it was extremely accurate.
Anyone out there with one that can offer some input.

I got one. It's accurate in my 32-20 TC Contender. I won a few trophies shooting IHMSA - Field Pistol with it.
I've got a 308 Win. with a fairly short leade into the rifling.
This bullet might be the ticket for that rifle.

Today, I cast about 300 or so of the RCBS 130's. Actually with lube and gas check they are closer to 140 grs. They are lubed with Ben's Red, sized .311 " & coated with Lee Liquid Alox and drying.
I'll load some this weekend.

Ben,
From what I've seen in the past I know they will shoot well for you, it's only a question of how well. I'm looking forward to seeing your results.
Rick
My chief concern is being able to reach the leade of the rifling in my .30 cal. barrels.
In the past, forcing a cast bullet to make a long jump and slam violently into the rifling out of the mouth of a .30 cal. case has not resulted in very good groups for me.
I like for my .30 cal. ( and all others for that matter ) cast bullets to lightly imprint into the rifling when the bolt is closed.
1 good thing I noticed when I did a test cast and brought in 5 freshly cast bullets to take my mic and " check the numbers ", the nose measured .304 out in front of the 1st drive band. This should help keep the nose aligned in the bore.
I purchased the mold from Beagle, he says he shot some very good groups with the bullet.
I'll have some results soon on this one to share.

My chief concern is being able to reach the leade of the rifling in my .30 cal. barrels.
My 30 cal rifles other than 30-30's are Remington 700s. All three that I've measured have a +/_ .250" throat then a loooooong lead. I'm thinking it's going to take at least a 200gr bullet to be long enough to reach the rifling. I'm planning to have Tom at Accuratemolds help me with a design that will work in them but haven't gotted that far along.
My goal is to shoot plain-based bullets like Ben when I grow up!
Always enjoy your post,
Rick
Thanks Rick for those kind words.
I never met a Loverin that I didn't like.
A barrel like you describe would work well with the 311467.

Good morning
Ben
Should you decide this is not the mold for you I will buy it for whatever you paid.
Thios would be a good design and weight for my 300Acc.

The 300 blk is where this boolit shines. Also in a swiss 89/11
My concerns that the bullet might not reach the rifling were unfounded.
My Tikka 30-06 is a pretty accurate rifle. Should be a good " test bed " to evaluate the bullet :

That bullet shoots great out of a K31. Also works well in an sks.
As soon as this rain stops I'll be able to tell you what it will do out of my Tikka 06'.
Range report on the RCBS , 30 cal. 130 gr. g/c :
The good- - Bryan's Mod. 70 Win. shot the bullet into 3/4" at 50 yds.
The bad - - My Tikka sprayed them into a group that looked like buckshot.
I guess I'll need more time and testing on this one.
