Is this for a bolty? Does it chamber and eject correctly and smoothly that is the main way I found the best seating depth for my rifles. Of course, I used some articles to get an idea of roughly how deep to seat it, but it was actually incorrect for my rifles.

To each his own, but I seat mine to gently touch the rifling.

To each his own, but I seat mine to gently touch the rifling. "DITTO" sometimes a bit more. If the nose Dia. is smaller that the bore ID and if the top driving band is smaller that the throat ID. then I don't think it really matters. Leaving lube groves full of lube exposed is OK if the ammo is carried in containers. If there is dust where you shoot some of it will stick to the lube. I help eliminate this by putting my bullets straight from the ,lube/sizer on a tray coated with "Motor Mica". It coats the lube and keeps anything else from sticking to the lube.
Just my $0.02

How do you know when it touches the rifling? Does it increase resistance as you cycle the bolt down?
Never mind you need a Sinclair tool to do that I guess:roll:,looked it up:smile: Anyways I believe that likely increases pressure inside the rifle.

You will be able to see the rifling marks on the boolit. Overpressure, will usually not be a problem with cast boolits. The person
loading the ammunition should definately watch for all of the usual pressure signs. Start your loads at the lower ends of the
pressures, then work up carefully.
