Interesting find, the .30 Remington rifles(8, 81, 14, 141, 30) were designed around a .307 bore, and it was the Remingtons answer to the .30-30. Maybe it was intended as a component for them and worked in the larger market of .30-30s as well? How old do you think they are?

I remember back in the early 70's Sierra had flat-nose bullets for 30/30 (said so on the box) that were labeled .307 diameter.

A little google-fu turns out I was wrong about your bullets. Hornady and Sierra used to make their .30-30 bullets .307" because, internet legend has it, the bores long ago were supposedly that size.

Sierra's yes.
Hornady? If so, they were kept a secret.

Supposedly, some, if not most, pre-war (as in WW II, not the Gulf War) 30-30-s were made with .307 bores. Bullet Manufacturers made the smaller size to accomodate these tight bores, while still shooting ok in standard .308 bores. I base that on hear-say, having no pre-war 30-30's on which to test this hypothesis.
I know I used to buy the Hornady .307 30-30 boolits at a gun shop in Oceanside for 2.95 a hundred. When I moved a couple years back, I came across a couple of the old, empty, boxes, one of which still had the price tag. They were ten cents cheaper than the Speer, IIRC.

Hornady has been selling a variety of their .308 jacketed bullets that are actually smaller in diameter for years. It ain't the printing the box that counts.

Still an interesting bit of history, Blammer. Can almost guarantee someone's looking for them. You're not red-green colorblind, are you? :kidding:
