Trying to take advantage of the cold... Well.. cold for me in Florida is MUCH different compared to most of you. I finally smelted most of pipes and wheel weights I had around. Its amazing how once its cleaned and consolidated how much lead you can fit into a small area. The ingots are perfect sized. With all this crazy cold and wind... Turkey hunting and fishing are rough... I decided to finish some of these "chores" and will be casting some bullets today with these ingots.

Many thanks to this forum for most if not all of the info on how to get started in this hobby. Down here.. its really a forgotten art.

Ironically, up here in the frozen north we have to wait for it to warm up enough for smelting.

I'm in S. Florida, and I love smelting and casting during what we call cold weather. Most of the year, I do my smelting and casting after the sun goes down so it's not as hot.

I was thinking about smelting last night after work, but I was just too tired. It's a shame to waste the cool weather like that.

With proper ventilation, I smelt in my shop all year around.. Rain or shine.

Watch how you store those ingots in Florida, not too many in one place, don't want to lose them in a sinkhole.

I am now ashamed of the nice cool days I have wasted away here lately in north central Florida. Summer is coming, and coming with a vengeance. You've inspired me to get out there and light up the old smelter. BTW, nice looking cornbread.
