Hey guys,
Just wrapping up my first Ar build. I decided to go with a 7.62x39 instead of 5.56 for more punch on bigger critters. I intend this rifle to be used as a predator calling rifle for bigger stuff like wolves and mtn lions.
I built it pretty lightweight and handy (m4 style carbine with flattop). I just need a couple suggestions.
What brake would you suggest for it? Recoil reduction would be nice, since my wife has already taken a shine to this rifle and will probably be shooting it a lot.
I'm also looking for a good bullet mold for hunting with this gun.

I like the Primary Weapon Systems muzzle breaks. They are loud as they come. And they work.

Mrs Fred is a small Asian woman, I built her a very custom SKS. I used a AK-74 brake. It works outstanding.
I can shoot it with one hand, and the red dot does the rest.

Unless things have changed, which I doubt, you may have problems finding decent magazines that don't bind. I owned an original Colt in 7.62x39 many years ago. Like you, I planned on using it for larger game. The only magazines that worked reliably were the "Frankenmags". Only the first 2 or 3 rounds out of the original Colt mag would feed out of the magazine, otherwise useless. The Frankenmags are the AR mags mated to an AK magazine. These were the only mags that were 100% reliable, for me at least. Just food for thought.

None the less, good luck,

They have changed. ASC makes an ar mag for 7.62x39 that work great! Of course good luck finding any for sale.

Things have changed a lot, actually.
I have been running an ar-15 in 7.62x39 for hogs for quite a while now. Well, about 10 years or so. I have put thousands of rounds downrange and killed nearly as many hogs. Before I saw the light, I was using Wolf Performance HP ammo (I know, Wolf and Performance should not be used in the same sentence) with great success. And, while hunting at night, I didn't have to go looking for my brass since it is steel cased.
Oh, and the AR Stoner mags are the real deal and work great.
Now, I am using the NOE 155 hp (mine weigh 149 grains with a deep HP) and a near case full of 4227.
What I would like to get is one of the Rock River lowers that takes the standard AK mags. That would be neat!

Hmmmm........ an AR lower that takes AK mags. One could sell several thousand a day! Maybe you could contact one of the local manufacturers and see what they would say to a "Group Buy" on your idea. AND, just because you mentioned it, someone will jump on it. I can see the AR sales quadruple over night. Great Idea!

Well, as far as I know,,,,, There is only one manufacturer that makes that type of lower and it is only Rock River. But they are not easy to get, hence why I started out running a standard lower with purpose built mags. I sure would like to get in on a group buy for that type of lower. Talk about Christmas!!!

They do reduce recoil very well, but the muzzle blast directed back can be pretty bad. My uncle has one on his AR and you don't want to be at the shooting station next to him.
