I'd really like to use IMR or H 4895 with the .300aac.

The cast will be 173gr 311401 or 311410, I forget the number right off, as well as a Lee 200gr mold that I have no clue on the number.

The jwords will be 180gr sierra and 150gr winchester silver tips.

I just can't find any data for the 4895 powders, and I don't think the trail boss loads will cycle a semi-auto.

Any help.

Powder is too slow for your purpose using the typical Stoner gun. ... felix

I'm learning that, not a good sign.

I suppose I'm going to have the beg, steal, and borrow to get ahold of something in the H100, Lil' Gun, or 4227 area... [smilie=b:

i've had good luck with Reloader 7 with jwords and boolits of those weights, and I don't think the 4895s are far removed from it. Experimentation is the only way you will know for sure. The powder is slow enough that you shouldn't be able to get yourself into too much trouble. I don't have any of that powder or I would do some development for you.

Add 5744 if using an AR, lots of acceptable powders.

subsonic is a completely different issue using the standard carbine/rifle gas ports with the powder selected. Yes, the WW680s are the best because they work well with the Lee 230 grainer pointed boolit which mimics the loaded 223 cartridge with a 55 grain military bullet. ... felix

Loading subs is my frustration point. Can't get them to cycle in my rifle, and can't get any AA1680 which apparently works quite well. I don't really need them since I don't have a suppressor and probably won't, but it would be neat to shoot it with ammo that is more on the quiet side. I'm considering drilling my gas port oversize and installing an adjustable gas block.

That is the best option to allow randomly selected boolits and powders that will feed and allow CORRECT auto workings. ... felix

No point in this 221 caliber case except to shoot subsonic. I'd rather have the standard 223 case at 30 caliber, actually 35 caliber, but neither would work.

Is the N130 too fast a powder for Lee 230 grainer? Looking at operation of an AR platform subsonic. Thanks

What OAL are you guys loading the Lee 230 grain bullets too? Also any other OALs for jwords or cast would be appreciated. In addition to the Lee 230, I picked up a GC Lee 120 to try at supersonic speeds...Any advice is appreciated, sorry if this is to much of a thread hijacking.

Any powder in the 4198 plus and minus range will work fine with a bolt gun, and VVN130 is one. In the Stoner gun, with the standard length carbine gas port, the powder composition selected needs to create enough port pressure AT the port. So far, only the double base ball powders work OK, and in my gun only the WW680 variants work 100 percent. ... felix

Keep in mind that the addition of a muffler (can, silencer, etc.) always reflects a pressure wave, and that wave MIGHT afford enough total gas pressure at the port orifice to work the action properly when using a broader array of powders. ... felix

I had no problem getting subs to function properly using 245gr boolits and H4895 with a carbine length gas system. However the SD was very high and accuracy was terrible.

HI! New member with new gun here. I built a no gas system AR with an integral suppressor (legal Form One). I used a really nice new barrel for a GE minigun to make the barrel. Therein lies the rub - 1:10 twist. Remington Subs go thru the target sideways at 25 yards.

Effective barrel length before porting is 11", OAL is 16". Baffle stack is 3.5" at end of barrel.

Anyone have any good load data for subsonic 180 cast bullets? I think these will stabilize.

I tried 9.1 gr H-110 with a 180 gr J-bullet and CCI primer. Got a rather flat primer but no cratering around the firing pin dent.

Also wasn't very quiet!

Also have AA-7 powder. Would that work? Starting load??

Thanks.

Nhrifle, will factory loaded subs and supers cycle the gun with the current gas port size? If so, I wouldn't drill the port, I would find the right load. I have heard of small gas ports on 300 blk barrels. Perhaps you have one with an undersized port, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.
