Hello all....
I bought a gascheck maker of sorts not too unlike Paco Kellys freecheck set up. I havent put it to the test yet but when it cools down a bit say Octoberish I will.
It uses sada cans to make up these checks.
Has anyone here used something like this long term? Did you have any trouble with bbl wear? Alum build up in the bbl??
Thanks guys....Buck

I've had a couple for years. No problem with aluminuming the barrel, the only trouble i've had is keeping the disc cutter sharp enough to cut the aluminum can material.

I am going to try some aluminum soffit. It is about the same thickness as gas checks. Also, aluminum flashing of the right thickness should work. Has anyone tried any of these before??

It will require different tooling that the aluminum can material. Castalot did a very nice write-up with pictures of this quite some time ago. He pretty well detailed all the things you have to do to use soffit material to make checks.

Someone on another site gave me several hundred 44 cal Al gas checks a year or so back

They worked ok , expect I could not keep them crimped on to the base of the bullet
Untill I superglued them on

I kept finding them imbeded in the Croney's cardboard sheild

Maybe a different type of Al would crimp on better
It looked he used flashing

I did a search for Castalott's articles but I was unable to locate them. Would you please point my nose in the proper direction? I would appreciate it!

I made some gas check out of soda cans and .011" flashing. The ones from the flashing turned out the best. They look better and they stay on the bullet. The ones from soda cans easily come off. I am going to load about 20 to see if they shoot the same as bullets with Hornady checks.

I would surely like to get a .35 GC punch/mandrel setup. I love Gatorchecks, but IMO the #1 reason for Boolit casting is self-sufficiency...
